Formed in May 2006 from the merger of the brewing interests of Charles Wells and Youngs with ownership split 60% to Wells and 40% to Youngs. The non-brewing parts of both Wells and Youngs remained independent companies. In 2007 Wells & Youngs acquired the Courage brands from Heineken through a subsidiary called Courage Brands Limited. In 2011, Wells bought out Youngs’ stake in Wells & Youngs. In October 2011, Wells & Youngs acquired the McEwans and Youngers brands. Currently (November 2011) production of draught McEwans and Youngers beers remains at Caledonian under contract, whilst production of bottled and canned beers has been moved to Bedford.
