For our first tasting of 2012, we’re trying something a little bit different. There is no style or theme for this tasting. Instead, we are asking enthusiasts to bring a bomber (22 oz, 750 mL) or two 12 oz bottles of an interesting beer wrapped in a paper bag. Black-out the cap to further the intrigue.
Then, mark the bag with a 1, 2, or 3. A "1" will mean that your beer is light or delicate, meaning that it should be tasted first. A "3" means that our palates will be rendered useless once we taste this beast. Including other facts on the bag might also be helpful, such as IBU or ABV. Avoid identifying the brewery, style, or name of the beer on the bag.
The idea is to taste these beers blindly without any preconceptions of style or brand. You won’t know what you’re getting until you pour the beer into your glass. We may find a surprising new favorite or discover that hype really plays a role in our impressions of a beer.
Also, feel free to bring any homebrew to include in the tasting.
