Freigeist Bierkultur, Meet teh Brewer Night
Stop down and meet Sebastian Sauer of Freigeist Bierkultur, one of Germany’s newest craft breweries, and sample his unique beers for the first time in WNY.
We recently had the opportunity to meet Sebastian at The Festival in Worcester, MA and he is an energetic and exciting individual who is extremely passionate about his beers.
Freigeist is the experimental offshoot of Cologne’s revolutionary small brewery, Braustelle. Braumeisters Peter Esser and Sebastian Sauer strive to break the chains of industrial German brewing by reviving, and updating, the country’s unique, historical beer styles.
Freigeist ales were first premiered in the US at the Shelton Brothers Festival last month, and Sebastian Sauer is appearing at select venues around the northeast and Midwest in July to meet customers and discuss the beers.
Inspired by the eastern German tart wheat beer once known as “Lichtenhainer”, Abraxxxas is sour and complex, with a balancing smoky maltiness.
Named after the traditional burning puppet at Düsseldorf’s Karneval, Hoppeditz is a subtly smoked, extra-hoppy version of the city’s classic “Special Old Ale” style.
Rich, hoppy, and complex, Ottekolong (“Eau de Cologne”) Kölsch is the traditional, unfiltered version of the city’s local specialty.
Weizenbier is an outsider (or “Pimock”)in Cologne, and there is a Rhineland slant to this wheat beer-fewer fruity esters, more hops, and a Kölsch yeast.
