Meddlesome Moth will host a special beer dinner featuring Real Ale Brewing Company’s Mysterium Verum barrel-aged series Monday, Nov. 26 at 6 p.m. with Erik Ogershok, brewmaster at Real Ale, leading the evening.

Real Ale’s Mysterium Verum is a series of experimental beers that the company has been working on for several years by aging select beers in oak barrels, stainless steel barrels or a combination of the two. This beer dinner may be the first time for seven Mysterium Verum beers to be showcased at a single event.

Executive chef David McMillan has planned a five-course dinner to pair with select beers for the evening, which will kick off with a starter brew at the bar. The beers to be showcased for the evening are listed below, along with the paired dinner menu.

WT3F?!, a barrel-aged version of Real Ale’s Devil’s Backbone made with brettanomyces

Devil’s Share, another Devil’s Backbone aged in Cabernet Barrels
Paired with Cabrales gougère and shards of Smithfield ham

Highlander, a wine barrel-aged wee heavy scotch ale
Paired with haggis crépinette with smoked oats, lamb, tongue and maple cream

Empire, a barrel-aged version of Real Ale’s Lost Gold IPA
Paired with curry, hops and scallop chawanmushi

Kraken, Real Ale’s Sisyphus Barleywine Ale aged in French oak
Paired with rabbit with sultana civet and Boston brown bread

Vol. X5, a Maker’s Mark-barrel-aged version of Real Ale’s 15th Anniversary Stout
Paired with chocolate, hazelnut and Medjool date financier made with malted X5 caramel

Scots Gone Wild, a wee heavy scotch ale aged six months in American oak and wild yeast, available for purchase at the bar

Tickets for the dinner are $90 for the general public and $80 for Delirium Guild members. Ticket price includes tax and gratuity, and guests can purchase tickets at the Moth or by calling 214-628-7900. Reservations are strongly recommended, as this event is likely to sell out.
