We are pleased to invite you to participate in the first annual Maya Rose Children’s Fund Oktoberfest Celebration and Fundraiser to be held in Modesto, CA on Saturday, September 28th, 2013 in Roseburg Square.
Our daughter, Maya Rose, was born into the world as a miracle child. With severe and complex disabilities, we were told she would not survive the hours following her birth. Six years later, she had proven all the medical experts wrong and blessed our family with amazing displays of strength, spontaneity and resilience.
In her final weeks with us, we learned the great importance of comprehensive, compassionate, life affirming care to children facing a life-limiting diagnosis. In a time of grief, it allowed us all to celebrate her, make her comfortable and say our goodbyes. Unfortunately, this care was not available to us in the Central Valley. So, all our friends and family, commuted to support us, while also paying their respects.
With that experience in mind, we are reaching out to individuals, businesses and the community at large to help us create and support a special Pediatric Community House in our own Central Valley. This Center will offer respite care, hydrotherapy and aquatic palliative therapy, pediatric end of life resources and bereavement services for both the children, families and loved ones, right here in Stanislaus County. These services will be available to medically eligible families regardless of ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion or socio-economic status.
Palliative care begins at the moment of diagnosis and extends throughout a child’s illness. It often also includes ongoing support for bereaved family members. The Center we envision will aim to facilitate communication and aid in the decision making process. It will provide access to resources, while addressing emotional needs. A comprehensive, family-centered approach focuses on alleviating the pain and distress of both illnesses and treatments. If curative treatments are no longer effective, palliative care can help families make the most of every moment together. Our mission is to help achieve the best quality of life possible, from the moment of admission onward, through strong collaboration between families and our interdisciplinary team.
We are asking, in advance of this groundbreaking community event, for any help and support from both individuals and businesses in the area. We will gladly accept donations, financial contributions, volunteer efforts and gifts-in-kind to support this important event.
While tickets and other event purchases are not tax-deductible, you CAN also make a contribution directly into the Fund before the event or at any other time, and receive a tax deduction. The Maya Rose Children’s Fund is a component fund with the Stanislaus Community Foundation, a public charity. All cash donations made directly to the Maya Rose Children’s Fund are tax deductible. Please make your checks payable to Stanislaus Community Foundation, with “Maya Rose Children’s Fund” in the memo line, and mail to Stanislaus Community Foundation, 1226 Eleventh Street, Modesto CA, 95354.
Thank you for your time and consideration. We look forward to raising a glass to your health at Oktoberfest!
