The Bluejacket Apple Harvest: 3 Distinctive Apple-Infused Ales Debuting on Draft!

Last fall, as colder weather began to set in, we headed down to the Blue Ridge mountains of Virginia to visit our close friends at Foggy Ridge Cider. Cidermaker Diane Flynt was pressing her final batch of orchard-grown Newtown Pippin apples, one of the first and still finest cider-making apples traditionally grown by artisanal cider houses in Virginia, and we were lucky enough to get our hands on some pomace. That day, we gathered just about 300 pounds of Newtown Pippin pomace--the residual pulp, skins, stems, seeds and juice from the pressing--and transported the pomace north for inclusion in three different Bluejacket brews.

This Wednesday night, at 6 PM, we are excited to debut the fruits of this collaboration, and will be debuting the following ales:

East of Eden - A classic Belgian-style Saison brewed with 80 pounds of Newtown Pippin pomace; classic farmhouse ale aromatics mingle with a hints of juicy apple fruit and a touch of tannin.

Baker’s Dozen - Our take on a classic Cider Doughnut: sessionable amber-brown ale with toasty, doughy notes enveloping spiced apple flavors (from the addition of 90 pounds of Newtown Pippin pomace as well as cinnamon & nutmeg).

The Betty - This strong, malty blond ale incorporates 100 pounds of Newtown Pippin pomace, as well as an emphatic spicing of allspice, nutmeg, cardamom and cinnamon, for dessert in a glass...redolent of apple crisp, crumble, cobbler...or Betty!
