Craft beer festival set out to impress publicans in central Italy
Italian cultural association Birramici (Beer Friends) has recently announced it will be organising Hoppy Days this summer - a craft beer festival expected to take the central Italian fishing town of San Benedetto del Tronto by storm.
Birramici spokesperson Francesco Vallese said Hoppy Days will shy away from offering “a flat range of flavours” that is typically associated with supermarket beer varieties. “While committing ourselves to include a vast supply of beers varying in taste, tradition and provenance, we remain very much oriented towards a quality beer offer,” he added.
Hoppy Days will be held between Thursday 3 and Sunday 6 July from 16:00 till late at San Benedetto’s ex-galoppatoio (old horserace track).
“Located at a stone’s throw away from town centre, by the sea and within walking distance from the train station – we think this venue allows an ideal party atmosphere for brewers, publicans and beer enthusiasts who might also like to exchange points of view while sampling and enjoying craft beer,” Vallese explained.
The bar will be equipped with 30 taps, rotating almost a hundred of the best local and imported beer varieties, including gluten free ones. As is likely to happen in other such events, beer will be available in full or half glass, with the latter option being more suited to those wanting to sample a wide array of beers while keeping their “feet on the ground”.
“Seeing we’ve gone to such extents with the selection of beer, we just couldn’t leave beer out of the equation,” Vallese said. “We’re looking at the inclusion of some really good dishes, and those who opt to follow our advice on beer-matching could do so if they wanted.”
Beer glasses will be available at the entrance against a nominal refundable deposit, while stands will be selling tokens for either beer or food. Glass washers will also be available for publicans to fully enjoy the distinct flavours gotten from one sampling to another.
Brewers who have so far confirmed their participation include Pontino, Opperbacco, Casa di Cura, Bad Attitude and Free Lions. Other brewers will be announced shortly. Food-wise, Barcelona’s “Pan de Coca” will be providing several culinary delights, including vegetarian options.
