there is a small chance I will get free one night (monday or tuesday of the upcoming week), where should I go to experience Houston / Texas beer?
Unfortunately I am stuck down by NASA Johnson Space Center, so I realize there is nothing near by, and I am assuming there is really no such thing as quick public transportation?

Though I will have access to a car, so mobility isn’t a problem, but it will mean I will need to be more selective.

Thanks for the input folks, I’ll have to see what I can swing, and will definitely use your suggestions if I can.

If you come down to Hay Merchant or D&Q, you could also consider Flying Saucer as they have a large selection of taps of Texas brews.

Hay Merchant is good, but go have dinner at Azuma...near the Saucer. Wonderful sake selection and easily, best sushi in Texas. Sit at the bar. Bartender is likely a fellow named Leon. He’s the shit.

This, though I haven’t been to D&Q but Bill’s a pretty trustworthy guy so, um, trust him.
