Not sure why this came into my head, but just curious how many people if any have rated the top rated beer in all styles either current or retired included? For some reason I am always seeking out the top rated beers in styles I don’t usually particularly care for, just to try to gain a new perspective on the style, aside from the fact that some beers that are top in style are only in the top as they don’t seem to be truly made to style such as Brian Boru.

If I had to guess, probably no one. Some challenging stuff to track down and keep track of. I swear we had an impromptu list like this at some point, though. Paging 3fourths.

I’m trying something similar, though somewhat less ambitious. I try to get a top 10 from each style. I’ve currently got 65 styles set with one more coming up tomorrow. If you count retired I’ve got one more, leaving me with just six to go. That unfortunately includes the very difficult pale lager, where all in the top 10 have less than 50 ratings.
I have achieved my secondary goal of getting a top 50 beer in all styles, but now I’m looking for the top 10.

These are extra-challenging to pursue, given how fast new entrants can rise in less common styles. Good luck to everyone who tries. I don’t specifically chase them (I have a rough knowledge of what stuff is up there in more common styles but it’s hard to keep up) but am always pleasantly surprised to see when something I just tried and liked is at the top of its style category.

Found this interesting so I did a quick look.
I just went down the top beers by style and didn’t leave out cider/mead/sakes since I do actively rate those styles.
Found I had the first 14 ice ciders before I missed one (Raven Ridge, which apparently should be retired, so if it is, I’d have the fist 19). First 12 IPA. First 11 Sour/Wild.
Styles that I didn’t have a beer in the top ten for style, and the first one I had rated:
Kolsch (16)
Malt Liquor (20)
Pale Lager (26)
Premium Lager (15)
Sake - Ginjo (13)
Sake - Honjozo (0, though I’ve rated the style, but only 5 have enough ratings to display)
Sake - Junmai (12)
So missing four top 10 beer styles, and 3 sake styles. Not bad.

I am also endeavoring to get 10 ratings of each style. The styles I’m lacking in: Zwickel/Keller/Landbier 8 Cream Ale 8 Bitter 8 Malt Liquor 7 Berliner Weisse 7 Lambic - Gueuze 6 California Common 5 Classic German Pilsener 5 Bohemian Pilsener 5 Eisbock 4 Mild Ale 4 Low Alcohol 2 Lambic - Faro 2 Lambic - Unblended 2 Kristalweizen 2 A few of these, like Malt Liquor should be easy to fix. Some, like the Faro, may be much more difficult. As mention elsewhere in this thread, I should probably try to find some of the best and worst in these styles, in order to truly appreciate each style.

I go for the same thing. I have just Cream Ale (7) and American Dark Lager (8) with less than 10. Both styles are uncommon in Europe.
If you want ten Faro you almost have to go to Bruxelles. I went there this summer and got quite a few, but many of them are tap only.

Weizen Bock 9

English Strong Ale 7
California Common 7
Lambic - Unblended 3
German Kristallweizen 2
Low Alcohol 2
Eisbock 2
Lambic - Faro 1
That’s what I have left. If I were to actually make a concerted effort, I could likely knock out all of them except Faro and Unblended. I think I’m going to try and get all them except those two done by the end of this year. Those bottles are generally not too expensive, either...

This is fun. I also look at the top 50 for countries. for a long time I had all 50 for Japan, but then Nest put out some stuff only in America and I couldn’t get any. But it has sank to #50 now, and will likely drop out in the near future.

The style that’s hardest to get in the US is Kristallweizen. All but impossible to do without a trip to Germany. Faro comes in a close second, but I think there are like 7 or so now that are bottled ( though I didn’t count).
