Some people on this forum have a bit of an entitlement issue. The ratebeer/beeradvocate population makes up less than 5% of their market, yet we all bitch and carry on like we should be the ones catered to. Non transferable tickets and simple as fucking night and day- they allow people to attend the event without paying exorbitant amounts, or missing out because some douche bought them all. Hill Farmstead could lose 100% of the RB/BA market and still be completely fine business wise. This is because average northern Vermonters drink most of their beer at local bars and restaurants. They already can’t make make enough beer to satisfy demand. Furthermore, I don’t know why people get all pissy that he wants his beer to be consumed in the best possible state. Why do people call him arrogant or egotistical? If I poured all my energy into creating something in the best possible way, I would also want it to be enjoyed in the best possible way. If your restaurant specialized in high quality grass fed meats, would you want the chef to char it until it dried out and lost flavor?

There is no reason to be suspicious or cyncial about Hill Farmstead’s ticket policy. There is actually a very simple reason that the tickets to our Farmhouse Festival are non-refundable or non-transferable: because they are paid for via paypal, there is no "ticket" per se, and the name of each purchaser is added to an excel spreadsheet. Check-in is a matter of stating one’s name and making sure that the name lines up with the name on the list. Thus - if 300 people were transfering tickets around, refunding them, shifting ownership, etc - it would become quite a complicated ordeal! In the past, all of our events have been open admission - but it was difficult to determine if we would receive 300 attendees or 1,000 attendees (which is a burden upon food vendors, toilets, and beer supply... 300 vs 1,000 is a drastic shift). VIP tickets to our event are the same way: name is added to a spreadsheet and check in occurs via cross matching. swoopjones: send us an email and let us know that you want to shift the names on these tickets. We have done this for other people who couldn’t make it at the last minute (quite the opposite of all the assumptions here!) because of emergencies. Tickets to our upcoming Harvest festival, however, will be actual "tickets" - in which case they *are* transferable (but not refundable). Tickets have not been transferable thus far simply because of the infrastructure around here. This time around we’re working with Ticket Alternative and actual tickets will be mailed out to customers... This has been policy since our first VIP/staff party last year - and long before anything to do with ebay.

I also can’t make it and bought a ticket. Although I only bought one and new about this policy at the time. I’m just taking it as a $30 loss. If something comes of this before tomorrow and someone can use my ticket let me know, free.
