I thought the Maple was a little hot, but I have been impressed by most of their others that I have tried, including their Saison Rue and Two Turtle Doves. I like Patrick’s attitude and his drive to create beers that aren’t par for the coarse. I see a lot of the same things going on with him that I do with Joey and Cigar City, and it makes me pretty excited. I am pretty lucky that the Bruery stuff now gets distributed to Indiana, and that I have a lot of great trading partners in Florida, so that I can keep up with what both these guys are putting out. 11/11/2009 12:39:30 PM

I was wondering what all the fuss was about, but their latest stuff is showing some real promise. 11/11/2009 12:42:17 PM

I’m also a big fan. The saisons are great, the Berliner Weisse is amazing and I really liked Melange #3, White Zin, and 2 Turtle Doves. 11/11/2009 12:48:35 PM

I’ve only had the Saison Rue and it was solid. Nothing else really has picqued my interest enough to trade for it except the Hottenroth Berliner which I hope to find a bottle of someday. 11/11/2009 12:49:14 PM

The Hottenroth is righteous. If it came in six packs and if it were affordable, I’d drink it all day long. At $8-9/750ml bottle, it’s still a decent price. Most of their other brews are probably more than I want to pay based on the beers themselves. Overall, I think this is a solid new brewery, but the price-to-value ratio doesn’t really work for me for most of their offerings.

It’s a strange one, the Bruery. Half the beers are Nasty, the other half rule. 11/11/2009 1:04:27 PM

I haven’t had anything that made me think PR isn’t doing a good job, but I have had a couple of disappointments, and a couple I’ve been less than impressed, but nothing from them has been bad. And I have absolutely adored the Berliner. Wish it was around here because even at the prices that their 750s go for, I’d buy it regularly. On top of that, PR is a really neat guy. Where there are some brewers who come off confrontational, or perhaps just misunderstood, I’ve found him to be very down to earth, in love with his job, and happy to be doing what he does. 11/11/2009 1:17:45 PM

But, after the BA Autumn Maple and Saison de Lente, I’m paying attention again. Even Papier (ridiculously sweet and heavy) was still pretty tasty.

What?! You actually liked a sweet beer? Crazy! wink

We get the berliner in NJ for like $8-9 a 750. In general I have liked most of their beers so far, and most of the regular offerings are sold around here for a good price, so I buy them fairly often.

Who would have ever thunk that a brewery making over-the-top, heavily spiced and often very sloppy beers would be so well-received here on RB?!

I tried 4 of their beers at a tasting at a bar, and all my ratings were about 0.5 to 1.0 points lower than the average here. I don’t know if it was just that I got the yeasty, warm, mixed-up slop at the bottom of the 750 or what, but I felt just about exactly about them as TAR said. Except about the Saison.
