o, what’d you guys do after Dark Lord Day?

After departing from the beer tasting at that restaurant in front of the Hampton, I had to meet up with a college friend of mine in Chicago. We hit two sports bars and finally decided to get some sleep at 4am. Not too exciting. I did, however, get to witness something I’ve never seen before. In the second sports bar, I saw a man hurl all over himself in a complete daze. The guy was so out of it that he didn’t notice the trash can someone was holding in front of him and continued to hurl all over himself. Three men attempted to help him until they realized it wass pointless. They needed to get him out. One man took each arm, and the third grabbed the back of his pants, and all three dragged him out back. That was most definitely the best ending to my epic day.

The day after DLD, I got to hit up Map Room, Piece Brewery, Small Bar, and Goose Island. I think there was a fifth, but I don’t remember. The initial plan was to include Hopleaf, Rock Bottom, and Kuma’s Corner. Hopleaf didn’t open until 5pm, and that was initially our first hit. So, we ended up skipping it then forgetting. Rock Bottom couldn’t be fit in because we had a late start on the bar hopping excursion. And Kuma’s Corner was stupidly packed. The night ended with Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria. Mmmm, delicious Chicago deep dish.
Before all of this, though, I got to witness another thing that I’d never seen before... a street fight. As soon as my friend came up on a stop light, this man stopped at the light perpendicular to us, jumped out of his car, and proceeded to rough up two hobos. One hobo he slammed up against a wall, hands around his neck. The other hobo must’ve said something because the man let go of hobo #1 and started to fight hobo #2. Right before our light turned red, the man went back into his car and drove off. So, in the span of a red light, we got to see a street fight begin and end. It was pretty intense.

The day of departing Chicago, we hit up Kuma’s Corner. It was, most definitely, the best stop out of all of the pubs and brewpubs I visited on my trip. Their burgers were phenomenal. And the setting is great.

My trip back had to include Kahn’s Fine Wines in Indianapolis. I’ve never seen a selection like that. It was pretty much my one-stop-shop.

That night I nursed my sunburn and drank up a few boring beers to take the edge off of everything. I had a tasting the day after with the growlers I brought back, plus the goop. Since then I’ve been shipping off random darklords and a goop or two to people that deserve it for being awesome traders cheers! 5/5/2008 4:51:31 PM

That wasn’t a street fight. That was a new "fun" thing to do that’s sadly been spreading around the country. The "fun" is in beating the crap out of homeless people. I’m sorry you had to see that shit in my hometown first.

Real street fights used to be nasty bloody affairs, often actually between equal amount of thugs. Knives, chains, bats, tire irons... Ugly scene.

As a kid in Chicago I was involved in a few nasty situations. Only got hurt badly once. Never again. I may have looked like a freak, but I was never a pacifist.

Nowadays, there’s mainly drive-by shootings, and too often the innocent are hit and often killed. Also a lot of teens shooting teens goes on.

Overall though, it ain’t a bad place to be. Plenty of good brewpubs, bars, and beer stores.

After DLD, I was kind of pooped and hungry, so I head home. Had plenty of hoppy brews later to cleanse my palate from all that dark shit!

Yeah, I guess in Chicago, hobo beating is more of a sport than a street fight. But you wouldn’t even see that at an intersection here in Seymour, Tennessee. So, I enjoyed watching a fight break out on the street.

I have heard some huge gang confrontations from that friend that lives in Chicago. But I think I’d rather just stick to watching a guy beat up hobo pedestrians.

I’d rather beat the crap out of the guy who attacked the bums for sport.
That kind of a$$hole mentality might have the creep picking out out-of-state cars next.

Anywhat - I’m glad you had a reasonably good time here.
cheers!

Mishawaka Brewing on the way home, right off I-80 and drove past Notre Dame and the football stadium which I guess is cool to do once in your life. 5/5/2008 10:09:33 PM

I did it for years, the sun shining off the golden dome is indeed impressive even if you hate the football program or every thing the University stands for.

I don’t know if you drove just down Douglas Road from the toll road exit or drove around the campus, but I know that most first time visitors are shocked on how small Notre Dame actually is.

So you are happy to see these poor suckers get the shit kicked out of them for doing absolutely nothing other than having the most shitty rotten lives imaginable in this country?

You’re no better that the stupid hoodlum who kicked the crap out of that bum. Not to generalize, but this sort of attitude is the problem with this country these days. No respect for other people’s rights.

BossHoss, no offense or anything, but I find you kind of disgusting.

On Sunday, I hit up Goose Island and Rock Bottom Chicago; ate some deep dish and missed my flight (bitch behind the counter wouldn’t check me in despite my plane not leaving for another 45 minutes). Spent $330 to stay at that hotel next to the airport. Ordered Cloverfield and The Mist. Liked both... loved Cloverfield. thumbs up

I’m a sucker for a happy ending.
