Yeah, in 2006 (I think) they switched from Starbucks to Intelligentsia, though the coffee isn’t a huge part of DL, imho.cheers!

Ya, that’s what I thought, though you are right that the coffee is not nearly the defining factor in the beer. And as BMan113VR just said, Alesmith fairly recently changed the coffee in Sweedway from Ryan Bros. to house roasted, right? The only difference I can see here is that they are using a different kind of bean to start with and are advertising it publicly as a special release of the beer. It seems like it is getting less black-and-white.

if the brewery makes a change in the recipe, no matter what it is, and release it as a special version of that beer, it seems obvious to me that it’s a new beer

true, but a lot of one off, dry hopped cask beers say otherwise...

Would you be happy to have the database be double the size with all the new stuff being miscellaneous special editions that each only have 2 or 3 ratings?

Seriously, if you want to add whatever you want to the DB and rate it, go to BA.

What about quantity? I haven’t had The Shit, but if The Shit is bursting with poop coffee flavor, whereas regular Speedway doesn’t have that much coffee, I think The Shit would deserves a new entry even if the coffee flavors are somewhat similar. A touch of coffee is very different from loaded with coffee. 11/4/2009 8:12:03 AM

There really isn’t any reason that this won’t be put in. There was a marked recipe change and the beer was made commercially available. There are other coffee varietal beers in here. We don’t allow alternative dry hopping for the reason that puzzl mentions, but we have always allowed beers in where there is a difference in the beer that is clearly marked by the brewer. This was kept out because it wasn’t commercially available. There’s no hate here, but there is a desire to maintain consistency. 11/4/2009 8:21:16 AM

I still want to know why Hudepohl 14-K Premium and Hudy 14-K have two different entries in the database. It’s the same beer although the contract brewer has changed, but this is no different than Hudy Delight, Burger Classic, Burger Lite, Little King’s, etc. I have sent it to the admins several times, but no response or update... 11/4/2009 8:28:34 AM

Those beers are too low-profile for anyone to care.
