i everyone, we are new to the scene. We currently have beers like Rulles (Summer, Triple)on draught, as well as Maharaja from Avery. We also feature a cask beer but are having trouble getting our customers into the concept. What do you all advise and where else can I try a great cask in Northern California?

Hi Jonathan

I take it you’re a pub? Cask is sold all over NorCal though they’re not serving the lighter blander beers more common in the UK. It’s not a big deal or strange here. Most beer people know 5 or 10 places that serve a cask ale either regularly or occasionally in Northern California. Where are you?

Serve a good beer lineup and attract people who love beer and you’ll have no problem getting them into whatever is on cask. Just offer enough variety so that customers have a choice. If you like more traditional cask brews look up English Ales, a Bay Area brewer.

Good luck!

Joe

This is a full service restaurant that is trying to revamp the beer side of their business (from the same people who brought us Town Hall and Salt House?). The food is fantastic...but I haven’t been there since they stepped up the beer menu.

We have 16 draughts and over 70+ by the bottle. We have fantastic food not usually seen with a dynamic beer scene. I want to keep the cask program going by buying my own pin and hitting the local microbrews for juice. 11/6/2009 11:53:55 PM

That sounds like a great idea, but you really have to know what you are doing to get this to work out for you. Are you going to use a cask breather? Is it going to be gravity fed or will you have a beer engine? Do you already have a good relationship with the brewers in the area?

Hey Jonathan - give me a buzz out at Speakeasy. We can give you a hand on your cask program.
