APA vs. IPA - help me understand

I don’t blame you. Some good general guidelines have been given, particularly on IBUs and ABVs (IPAs typically will be between 60-80 and 7-8%, respectively, while APAs average between 40-60 and 5-7%), but so many pale ales these days cleverly straddle the line. When in doubt, compare the APA to the IPA created by the same brewery - that tends to work better and be more consistent, IMO, since most brewers make both.

I think American Indian Pale Ales have little to do with the indigenous cultures. Unless there’s corn in it.

Ultimately, it has to do with where they are brewed. APAs are brewed in America, while IPAs are brewed in India.

I hope that clears things up.
