OK, time for a little love-in.
I’d not had Black Betty in a little while. My initial rating was from 9 November 2012 - I was the third person to rate it - although I’m sure I had it at some point between then and tonight. But tonight I sat down with a can all to myself and really got to know her again.
This beer was exceptional straight out of the blocks, and that was an incredible accomplishment in itself. I’m not sure if the beer has gotten better, or if it’s just the perspective I’ve gained over the last three years (especially since I drink a lot of CDA), but fucken hell, this beer is just absolutely stunning. Quite rightly it ranks 16th on the CDA list, but I think it could be higher. For me, at least, it’s a top five CDA (my ratings might make it my #1 CDA but I cannot be bothered to check that now).
If you enjoy the roasty-resinous combination of a black IPA, then it really does not get much better than Black Betty.
So, I guess this is just a call to arms to anyone who hasn’t enjoyed a can of Black Betty in a while. (If you’ve never had it, then FFS get it together and find some.) If you have had it before, then fetch yourself another can and enjoy what is certainly one of the best beers for its style in the UK (and great in absolute terms as well).

True.
But bro, you’ve [apparently] not enjoyed a Black Betty since 22 November 2012. High time you got back on this ride!

Sounds good Leighton, I have only had this once, bottled way back in January 2013 from the fondly remembered Mr Lawrence bottle shop, and scored it highly. Will have to grab a can of this while we are over.

Bro - I can assure you I have.
Just had no time for many re-rakes in the past few years but I agree NOW is the time !
I did give it a xolid 4.1 first time round!

I gave it a4.4 on Valentine’s 2013 Joint fifth place with only Buxton impy black rocks significantly ahead

Surprisingly I have also not rated it. I have drunk much of it. Need another visit soon.

very easy.
Most decent bottle shops stock it in cans, ditto bars.
Also crops up on draft on a regular enough basis.

I love Black Betty, and most of the Beavertown beers I’ve tried. But Black Betty especially.

I’ve been banging on for ages about how this beer and Gamma Ray have both improved massively since their Alpha Series days. Regularly send them out as extras in trades.
