this is a decent option.
You could sear it and make fajitas...that would be nice...but fillet is too lean to grill

And using bacon to compensate for lack of fat is silly...use butter or olive oil if you must...bacon is too strong

Sooo, I’ll ruin it unless I sprinkle a highly processed artificial garlic product onto it?

Grind up some coffee or expresso beans very fine with some chili powder and rub on the outside.

How about Beef Wellington ? Check Gordon Ramsey’s video (2 parts): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FS8u1RBdf6I and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fFWDzxbg5MI which has some nice tips if you never tried it before (and a slight twist to the original recipe for Xmas purposes)

I like fillets w/ a blue or parmesan cheese crust. Mix some breadcrumbs, cheese, olive oil or butter and whatever seasoning. Use it to cover the steaks and put ’em in the broiler for the last few minutes of cooking. I am not a huge fan of the fillet either.

I’m basically posting the same thing: one of my favorites is the make a crust of blue cheese, panko, garlic, parsley, and olive oil. Broil for a short time, and that’s it.
If doing filet on the grill, I love slicing it into about half-inch thick strips and making pinwheels with a cheese like fontina, garlic, and olive oil. Hold them together with skewers and sear on both sides.

Broil it simple easy no nothing on it! just move your rack up in the oven to about 4 inches from the top element if you have electric stove and broil that sucka!, its awesome! and of course flip it over after browning on the first side, and dont preheat oven and leave door open slightly!
