Like you say ... locals

Unless it’s a 4% cask bitter ending in ’oom bar’ they’re not all that interested despite thinking they are beer experts !

Thomas, go to the RateBeer search bar and type in "new rose". Alternatively, try the Google.

The New Rose is on Essex Road, not far from the Earl of Essex.

My first visit. Thanks to Leighton for the heads up. A pleasant spot. Only three handpumps but they seem keen on keeping them interesting.

Brewery BS 14 Brown Street (anyone know anything about this brewery?)

Just a warning for anyone thinking of trying this. Earl Of Essex won’t reveal who the brewer is so it’s likely to be unrateable. Twitter exchange below. Shame they don’t feel the consumer needs to know too!

Chris Owen @chrisobeer22h
@TheEarlofEssex1 Any info on the Brewery BS 14 Brown Street that was on yesterday - can’t find out anything about the brewery

The Earl of Essex @TheEarlofEssex122h
@chrisobeer It’s a trial brew. The brewer has asked us not to give out their name.

JamesB @jamesbwxm22h
@TheEarlofEssex1 @chrisobeer Is that not of dubious legality?

The Earl of Essex @TheEarlofEssex121h
@jamesbwxm @chrisobeer We are just re-branding a beer. The people who need to know ie. HMRC know what is in it and who made it.
