Ok so I finally got my hands on a sixer of Westy 12’s... had one last night and yes it was very good. But now that I have some to play with i want to set up a blind tasting among some of my beer drinking buddies and was wondering what other Quads you would suggest to throw in the mix. I live in Maine so these are what I have readily available...

Trappist Rochefort
Chimay
Westmalle
Bernardus
Achel

I know the Bernardus abt 12, Rochefort 10 well but not sure others that make a full fledge quad...

Might even throw in a Boulevard Sixth Glass, Allagash FOUR, Pretty Things Baby Tree....

Your educated opinions?

Good call on the Rigor Mortis, Ommegang, La Trappe.... no Lost Abbey in Maine, got a couple from MA but that wasn’t there.

I like Chimay Blue better than Abt 12 but I can’t tell the difference between it being a Belgian strong ale vs. a Quad. I found Ommegang to be too boozy. Rochefort is also too boozy IMO. Not many do a great quad IMO.

Unibroue Trois Pistoles and La Terrible are pretty good.

Chimay Blue is great, easy to find, and $10-12/ 750ml bottle.

Danko
FWIW, Westmalle is not a "quad" and only Achel Extra Bruin would be the Achel even close to a "quad" although not really.

Here are a bunch of Belgians I can recommend:

Rochefort 10
Chimay Bleue
Bernardus Abt 12
La Trappe Quadrupel (the original, and the only one that can legally carry the name Quadrupel within Europe)
La Trappe Quadrupel Quercus
Straffe Hendrik Quadrupel
Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple
Pannepeut
Pannepot
St Amatus
Abaye des Rocs Grand Cru
Caracole Nostradamus (used to be a seasonal Christmas beer but not anymore)
Cuvée van de Keizer Blauwe
Kerkom Sarphati Oude Olie Grand Cru
Kasteel Bruin

Cheers,

Danko
