I can’t decide whether the concept of a beer with both bacon and chocolate in it makes me sick to my stomach, or is the best beer concept ever. ;) This could either be really good, or really bad.

Of course, if it’s anything like ShockTop’s "IPA", it’ll taste actually like a macro lager anyhow, so the point will be moot. ;)

Rogue made something like this, and I’m sure it was actually good unlike this.

Yeah, I don’t want to pre-judge this, but the Blue Moon Pumpkin Ale that doesn’t taste like pumpkin or any fall spices makes me a little skeptical. Not that the Pumpkin Ale was bad, I just don’t see what made it a pumpkin ale. There might have been the faintest whiff of a pumpkin scent if you sniffed the foam at the bottom of the glass when you were done drinking. As a side note: I guess this fall seasonal contest means their pumpkin ale is gone, eh?

Shocktop’s so-called Wheat IPA also put me off of some of this stuff. I mean, it’d have been one thing if it was more of a wheat pale ale with adjuncts (about what I’d expect), but I tried the stuff and it had about the same hops content as a Budweiser lager. On no planet is that thing anywhere near an IPA, or even in pale ale territory. I was actually kind of looking forward to it it, too, thought it might be a less expensive alternative to the lower tier craft IPAs. But it was really disappointing.

I’d try it, but we won’t get it in Canada, and I probably would not be missing much. I did see the regular Shock Top in Ontario when i visited last summer though...scrolled past.

The regular Shock Top (Belgian whit) isn’t that bad. You can taste some wheat, you can taste orange, it’s a bit hazy, there’s some beery stuff in there. It’s clearly a cheap Belgian Whit, but it’s a Belgian Whit.

The Shock Top IPA is simply not an IPA, though, which kind of galls me. It’s like false advertising or something. It’d be as if AB-Ibev decided to market a "Budweiser IPA" and it was really just Budweiser lager with a different label. Words have meaning.
