BOB’S 47

The Milkman thinks it’s ok to just post his annual announcement in the Minnesota forum, I don’t think it’s ok. This belongs on the main forums and you all know it.

Its a good beer and everyone should be forced to drink it all the time.

A bit of trouble I have with it is that a few years back they threw the Oktoberfest bit on the label. Before that it said Vienna Lager, nothing about it changed... the folks at Boulevard were very open in saying that they were still brewing it as a Vienna, and that the Oktoberfest label was only so they could sell more of it. But as soon as the label changed, so did the style designation in the database... I don’t know if this instruction came from Boulevard, if so then whatever, but if not then I feel like it should go back to Vienna.

Eh, the two styles are intrinsically linked; I don’t believe the designation is really that important. It’s kind of like Amber Ale & APA, lot of crossover potential...

Yeah, you’re right it doesn’t really matter. Just always bugged me that it was done as a marketing thing and that then we followed suit.

I agree, it was marketing, but the beer didn’t change. It actually used to say Munich-Style Lager, but it’s clearly a Vienna. Yes, there’s some crossover between Vienna/marzen, but marzens to me have sort of a vague bready/toastiness as their only character (I’m clearly a HUGE fan of the style), and Viennas are noticeably sweeter. I tend to find a big difference between the two styles, as Viennas are possibly my favorite style, and I really don’t like marzens at all. Bob’s 47 is the only beer marked "Oktoberfest" I buy.

I once flexed my admin muscles and changed it back to a Vienna, but it went back to an Oktoberfest again. I’m not the local admin, so I let it go.

Also, CIH4B, stay out of our forum, you stinky Iowa pig-humper.

You know that everyone has left the KC forum and made their own website? They REALLY didn’t want us in there!

One peek at OT-L pretty much explains their reaction though, I don’t blame em’.
