What church does Nkemdiche go to? Have they received any sizeable tithes recently? I hear that’s how it happens. Sounds like Kearse almost committed to them, too. That Dabo is a shady douche in the mold of Lane Kiffin.

Eric, how do you explain the shockingly bad lack of talent in the state of West Virginia? Just checked WV’s state rankings for the 2013 prospects on Rivals and they only had 5 kids deserving of rankings in the entire state, 1 3 star and 4 2 star kids? 5 kids in the whole state? Most Florida schools have at least 5 kids on one team play college ball somewhere. Ive never been through there but is it that backwoods? Its surrounded by some good talent states, I just dont get it. Is football just not pushed there at early ages for kids? Im shocked. I knew it was bad but, wow. I see you guys just picked up the next Owen Schmitt, your number 3 guy in the state.

Small state, geographically.
Small population.
Not many kids graduating from high school each year (same reason WVU consists of almost 50% out-of-state students).
Totally Mountainous... TOTALLY... no flat land anywhere. At least Colorado is a large state and there are vast plains.
Very, very rural. Lots of hills and trees; not many paved roads or houses (football players grow in houses, not on trees).
Poor facilities.
No football in the winter.
Scouts have given up even looking for talent since the state is tough to navigate and doesn’t have a history of producing much talent anyway.
No one really cares about high school football; only college ball... and the Steelers and Skins.
Your guess is as good as mine.
I think I posted something about this in this thread not too long ago. It was just basically laying out how well WVU does with recruiting considering all of its obstacles.. lack of in-state talent being the largest obstacle.
Zero 5*, 4* and 3* athletes in the class of 2012.

Who have been the best players to ever come out of the state. Anyone I’d recognize?

Sam Huff
James Jett

Curt Warner
Jerry West (basketball)
I think that’s about it.
Lots of college coaches from the state. Lots of high school coaches in Florida played at WVU, but were probably all raised in Florida.

Random bored preseason thoughts:
1. Anybody looked at Oregon’s weak ass schedule:
Arky St, Freson St, Tenn Tech, Arizona, @WSU, Wash, @ASU, Colorado, @USC, @Cal, Stanford, @OSU Beavers.
2. We know this, but the Big East is just completely pathetic now. There is no way in the world they should have retained their auto BCS bid. A 5-7 USF team ly is projected as the best team.
3. It really makes me laugh that most projections have us around #30, even more so is that our RB corp is ranked even lower. We have Onterio McCalebb back, a FB transfer who was an AA last year, and four 4 star recruits behind them. Probably one of top TEs in the country in Lutzenkirchen, too. You just watch where AU’s run offense ends up this year.
4. Everybody gives Dooley a hard time at UT. He had to pick up the pieces from Lane Kiffin’s mess. Ton’s of attrition, this is his 3rd year and he is just now getting his own players on the field. I think Bray is a good QB and him being hurt last year was a bummer for them. I think both UT bounces back this year to 8 wins. Interested to see how they come out against NC State. Dooley does need to bring in some better recruits this year... UT should be able to just sell itself based on history.
5. Why does every fanbase have so many sunshine pumpers? I look at the various SEC forums and everyone thinks they are going to win 10+ games and compete for the SEC. Why can’t people be objective in analyzing their teams?
Arkansas fans have to be some of the most delusional idiots I’ve seen. They don’t even think our game is important in their quest to win the SEC West and it is in AU. They have serious WR issues, a RB coming off a bad injury, and a terrible defense yet again.
Seems all the USCe fans think they are destined for BCS glory this year, too. LSU/UGA/UF are losses, sorry. If Jeff Driskel can do anything for UF, they will be a tough team to beat. Their defense will be nasty this year.
I really have no idea what will happen at AU, so much talent but a difficult team to predict until we see what happens on the field against Clemson with 2 new coordinators. I do see silly Auburn fans predicting 10 wins and I get flamed on our own boards for calling them crazy.
6. I don’t like the Seminoles, but this has to be their year. Pretty easy schedule, especially with a down Miami team (still waiting to see the "Golden Age"). 3 easy games to open season, filthy Defense, and Manuel should have a big year.

I think there is a Rivals 4* kid in the state this year. I think Switzer is his name. Committed to UNC or something like that. We offered him late and really didn’t pursue him. Coaching staff may have known he planned on leaving the state.

Ryan Switzer, 5.7 3* so right on the cusp.
5’9 166 lb white running back though? Yikes, I can see why you passed.
