Eric, how do you explain the shockingly bad lack of talent in the state of West Virginia?

Just checked WV’s state rankings for the 2013 prospects on Rivals and they only had 5 kids deserving of rankings in the entire state, 1 3 star and 4 2 star kids? 5 kids in the whole state? Most Florida schools have at least 5 kids on one team play college ball somewhere.

Ive never been through there but is it that backwoods? Its surrounded by some good talent states, I just dont get it.

Is football just not pushed there at early ages for kids?

Im shocked. I knew it was bad but, wow.

I see you guys just picked up the next Owen Schmitt, your number 3 guy in the state.

Small state, geographically.
Small population.
Not many kids graduating from high school each year (same reason WVU consists of almost 50% out-of-state students).
Totally Mountainous... TOTALLY... no flat land anywhere. At least Colorado is a large state and there are vast plains.
Very, very rural. Lots of hills and trees; not many paved roads or houses (football players grow in houses, not on trees).
Poor facilities.
No football in the winter.
Scouts have given up even looking for talent since the state is tough to navigate and doesn’t have a history of producing much talent anyway.
No one really cares about high school football; only college ball... and the Steelers and Skins.
Your guess is as good as mine.

I think I posted something about this in this thread not too long ago. It was just basically laying out how well WVU does with recruiting considering all of its obstacles.. lack of in-state talent being the largest obstacle.

Zero 5*, 4* and 3* athletes in the class of 2012.

Oh, and did I mention that almost as many people live in Palm Beach County alone (1,335,187) as live in the entire state of West Virginia (1,855,364)?

So, that and the fact that no one in WV cares about high school football are probably the largest contributing factors.

We recruited this kid too... and then backed off.
I didn’t know he was still around. I thought maybe he was running track somewhere. Kind of a head case.

He’ll be fine. Showed up a little late, he wasnt robbing a fast food joint, or "horsing around" with children in the shower.

Nothing to see here.

Isn’t the whole summer "voluntary". How do you get suspended for missing a summer workout where coaches aren’t involved? Am I missing something?

Nobody was arrested, unlike the fact that University of Central Florida basketball player Marcus Jordan, son of Michael, recently was.

UCF arrest

P.S. Does anybody else think Mrs. Jordan had a visit from the mailman when she had this son? I look more like him than Michael Jordan does.
