Hello, Looks like I am starting my annual beer travel 17.2.2014 at New York. Current plan is: 17.2. arrival to hotel, Rattle&Hum, Ginger Man 18.2. Törst, Dirck the Norseman, Brooklyn, ( Mugs Alehouse), Spyuten Devil, Barcade 19.2. Blind Tiger, Old Rabbit, Proletariat, Good Beer, Top Hops 20.2. Pony Bar, Beer Culture, Rattle&Hum, Ginger Man 21.2. Flight to Seattle Are Westys (Blond/8/12) still very rare/expensive in New York? I could bring couple of one (or something else) for a trade if anyone wants some. My hotel is just next to Empire State Building. Janne

Westies are currently unavailable in NY. The only time they were here recently was when they were in the brick, however long ago, and that was just Westy 12. For your Williamsburg/Greenpoint trip on 2/18, I’d suggest going to Dirck the Norseman rather than Mugs Ale House. Mugs isn’t quite as good as it used to be. Additionally, Dirck makes a bunch of interesting beers. I’d suggest for your 2/19 itinerary to hit up Fool’s Gold on Houston St. and perhaps Good Beer (store and tap room) and Whole Foods Bowery if you were interested in taking bottles home with you. Pony Bar is a bit out of the way from all of those places and in my opinion, isn’t as good as the other places I just mentioned. Enjoy your time here and let us know if you’d like to meet up anywhere for a beer or several.

The rabbit club is lame now too. Beer selection is generic and overpriced. Another new place near your hotel is Beer Culture (45th btw 8th and 9th age) and is on your way to Pony Bar. Beer culture also has bottles to go if that’s something you’re interested in.

Also check out Beer Authority in Times Square,The Jeffrey 60st between 1st & 2nd and Draught 55 on 55st between 2nd & 3rd

He’s a former NY local who now lives in Seattle, but he relentlessly checks the NY forum and pokes fun at us whenever possible. I’m sure he’d be happy to meet up with you when you’re in Seattle. Sounds like a great trip you have planned, Janne!
