I have no idea, but that is def an old looking label and I’ve never seen it before on these bottles |
I did a google image search, and found this (eventually) |
Certainly pretty old. Should make a good alternative to balsamic vinegar anyway. |
Originally posted by chriso Most of the contents were consumed years ago. I forget when. But I noticed there’s a little beer left in the bottle. I’m considering trying to culture it. It’s possible there’s some old Gale’s bugs still alive in there, which would be exciting. |
Originally posted by GarethYoung I’ve got more recent bottles made at gales still full likely to be more viable |
Take it for a drink and dinner before hand |
The metric 275ml and the ’e’ sign imply it’s not as old as it’s pretending to be style-wise. |
I bought a few bottles with the same label around 2001 at Kulminator. I still have 2 bottles left. The bottles has Gales marked on the back in the glass. The bottles I have had has all been drinking well.....as of what they are! I am not 100% sure but I think I bought them as being from 1983. |
My entirely amateur opinion, based on experience looking at other old bottles, is that this bottle is from no earlier than 1980. If it is older than that, then someone has taken incredible care to keep the label and foil in outstanding condition. |
may be worth contacting malcolm here: http://www.irvingbrewers.co.uk/ he used to work for Gales and may be able to assist |
