Doesn’t sound like he was drinking it to begin with.

They apparently hate all the people who have been trading their beer as well:

We will brew Ephraim again in the Fall. However, there will be no growler fills. We are 90% certain that this will be Draft only. Just like Pliny the Younger. Just like Pat and the good folks at Alpine. Yes local folks, eBay and beer trading has forever ruined your opportunity to take home a growler of our Imperial IPA...

My take on this is that some brewers frown upon trading growlers as they’re more susceptible to issues with keeping the beer fresh. He might not like folks trading the bottles, I don’t know, but I didn’t take this comment that way.

This is essentially giving a big "fuck you" to the trading community and telling the locals we spoiled something for them. And that makes me angry.

I didn’t take it that way. I think they care about the quality of their product. The fact that some people will sit on a growler of their beer or months to a year until the best offer comes along does not help things. That said, I think they are overreacting to a few outliers.

And it’s a consumer’s right to do what they want with their beer. If someone is stupid enough to sit on a growler of DIPA too long, then they’re missing out. But it’s not a brewery’s place to make stipulations on consumption. Make beer, not rules.

A lot of the issues with the way people currently trade beer is that there is a new group of smug assholes who only see trading as a means to an end and only care about trading the really rare stuff as they must have it regardless of quality. One look at the joke that is the trade forums here and at BA shows just how easily it is to come to the conclusion that all beer traders suck.

...Dude.. a business can do whwatever they want. Just like a consumer. The business is taking the steps they want.. and it’s not going to hurt them.

Seriously.. getting this upset over beer?
