I’d like to get some opinions on an addition to my brew kettle I’m considering. Currently the kettle is a standard sanke keg and I’d like to add a ball valve.

1) Do the weld less ball valves work well, or do they tend to leak?
2) how high from the bottom of the kettle is best to install the valve?
3) Is there any type of screen you use to transfer clearer wort into the fermenter?

Thanks for all input

Yes they work well. No, they don’t leak if installed properly.
2) how high from the bottom of the kettle is best to install the valve?
As close to the bottom as practical. You’ll need enough room for the retaining nut to fit.
3) Is there any type of screen you use to transfer clearer wort into the fermenter?
I have an in-line hop stainer that works well with pellet hops. It was not cheap. A whirlpool before runoff or false bottom in the boil kettle can also help.

There’s a guy in my homebrew club that makes the Hop Stopper

I’ve never seen one of these clog and you won’t need to whirlpool. He’s and engineer type homebrewer that makes something that works.

Here’s what I bought. Works great except when I’m making IPAs with pelletized hops. Then it tends to get overwhelmed and need to be cleaned out in mid-runoff.

And bought one when they were still around $100
