’ve decided it’s time to try my hand at home brewing. I’ve done a fair amount of reading, taken notes, trolled forums, etc. I want my first batch to be an IPA with pineapple. I’ve read a lot of horror stories using pineapple, but a few good ones. I think if I don’t focus too heavily on it, it can be done. I’d like some advice on my recipe from those much more learned than I. Any info would be much appreciated. Pardon any noob-ery. This is (essentially) the kit I have.
6 lbs Light Malt extract
1lb Dextrin malt
.5 lb Munich malt
1.5oz Fuggles (60)
.5oz Chinook (60)
.25oz Cascade (60)
.5oz Fuggles (30)
.5 Chinook (30)
.5 Simcoe (30)
.25 Cascade (30)
.5tbs Irish Moss (30)
.5 Cascade (5)
.5 Simcoe (5)
.5lbs Honey (5)
Don’t really know what kind of yeast to go for
.5lb crushed pineapple at secondary
Dry hop 2oz Simcoe for 7 days.
1/2 cup corn sugar for priming.
I’m sure this recipe is full of holes and bad ideas, but that’s why I’m here. Thanks, and cheers!

Isn’t pineapple a complete no-no when it comes to brewing? Like, not "just don’t use to much" but more like "don’t use any at all or it will ruin your beer." I don’t remember why but I know I’ve read that before.

I considered taking it out of the recipe and load up on Simcoe hops (according to the book I read these give off a pineappley character,) but if it does work out with the real deal the "told’ja so!" factor would be nice, hah!

Real pineapple in beer = ruined beer (in my experience; unless you’re making hooch which is prison wine and tastes like formaldehyde smells). Play around with the hops if you’re shooting for that pineapple aroma/flavor. If you do want to experiment with pineapple, either wait for someone to chime in who has successfully brewed with it, or experiment with a 1 gallon batch.

I would cut out the 1/2lb of honey.
and why pineapple here?

I think it would be interesting. Why cut the honey?
I did find some pineapple extract online, that might be a bit safer than the actual fruit. If I were to do an extract, at what point should I add it? Like I said - I don’t want the focus to be the pineapple, I just think it could add a little complexity. And I’ve never (probably for good reason) seen a pineapple beer.

yeah it’ll probably suck, but go for it anyway. just keep notes of what you did and figure out the problem and make it not suck the next time
(hint, the problem will be the pineapple)

I just dislike the flavor honey gives off to beer, just make a mead if you want to use honey.

Fair enough.
Well, pineapple and honey aside, is the malt/hop selection foolish/stupid/good/whatever?? Like I said, I (clearly) have never done this before

I’m not a very experienced brewer, but why not try and get the basics down before adding something like pineapple? I would try a good, basic pale ale or IPA, then move on to something radical after I had done that successfully.
A caveat: I can’t stand breweries who can’t make a good ’normal’ beer, but feel the need to be creative and make ’extreme’ beers. They all turn out bad, in my experience.
