So, Drew just never filled out a trade review for him then? I see.

It looks like Drew got 2 BA Decadence, 2 BA Old Numbskull, 1 2004 BA Speedway. Of these, one BA Wee Heavy, one BA ON, and one BA Decadence are fake? So, where did you get the BA Wee Heavy from as it’s not in the trading profile of alafito? Maybe I missed it? Just curious if there’s another individual who shipped it.

Find here what was traded:http://www.ratebeer.com/Shipments-Profile.asp?FromID=19069

Plus, it’s odd that in the same box alafito sent Drew one legit bottle and one bogus bottle. Doubly odd that he did this two, and possibly, three times in a row. Is it possible that alafito is really that moronic to ship one legit bottle and one obviouse fake without expecting Drew to figure it out? I mean come on! At least use a gold marker and not white. That is, unless both bottles are fake.

Just wondering if all the ones alafito sent are fake. If so, then it’s good to be aware that fakes have been known to contain the gold foil and gold marker in addition to the obvious silver foil and white marker bottles.

Oh, and is it really that shocking that a bad knockoff came from tijuana? Come on................eye roll

The foil is gold, but the markings are in white marker on the legit bottles. And I sent Drew a BA AleSmith, but forgot which one.

Ah, you’re right - I don’t really hate Mexico.

The real subject of all my angst is the New England area and those who use photoshopped George Costanza pics as their avatar!

DOWN WITH THEM ALL!

I think that instead of having a flaming file, if a thread generates 17 pages in under 24 hours there should be an animated shit storm. Sound good? 11/1/2007 11:55:46 AM

There are several reasons why I didn’t come out and say who it was that sent these bottles to me.

As others have noted, I have a long history of trading with alafito (and yes, all previous BA AleSmith bottles that he sent are real). He has always been one of the easiest traders to get along with and communicate with. Yes, it was quite a shock to get these fake bottles from a person who’s hooked me up on several occasions in the past. I was ready to lead the lynch mob when I first found out they were fake, but because of our history together I thought he deserved a chance to explain himself. I contacted an admin, beercellar, and his advice was to see what comes out of our communication before flagging him.

Alafito maintained good communication with Peter Zien and me in an attempt to figure out how these bottles came about. As well as, being willing to reship my box to him or send another box of beer to make up for it all.

The communication between the 3 of us ended recently with no clear answers. There are really no new details on how the bottles came about then from what I’ve previously posted. So of course we can all make our own opinions/assumptions on the matter.

Perhaps it is faulty logic, but I didn’t feel there was urgency to out this person because I don’t believe he’s still sending these bottles. If I thought other RB’s were in danger of being victimized then the details of this would have come out a lot sooner. Again, I can understand the faulty logic, "How do I really know what could happen?". But I guess that is my choice and I’ll live with it and the criticism. For what it’s worth, I was going to release the name after he had a chance to make a statement on thread.

This situation was obviously unusual as it is not a normal "This member doesn’t ship" issue (you could make the argument its worse).

Also, no one has contacted me stating they too have similar bottles.

Finally, I’d just like to thank Matt (TheBeerCellar) for his time and advice in responding to me, Peter Zien for taking this issue so seriously, the few RBers that have given me their input while this was going on, and to people that have responded or were effected by this thread, I continue to be impressed by the passion the members of this community have for their love of beer and it is that passion that doesn’t make light of trading frauds and makes it possible to ship beer to total strangers.

Thank you,

Andrew

No way its worse. At least you’ve got something for your troubles. I’d much rather have 3 bottles of good Alesmith than nothing.

But more devious, yes. Definitely more devious.

honestly.. I’d rather get nothing then fake bottles.. whats next refilled bottles? seriously.. the idea of fraudulent trading is much worse in all regards than someone not shipping at all. I would rather ship out a box full of my rarest beer and get nothing in return than get a box full of fake rare bottles

let me also add, that fake bottles/the intent to deceive me is an insult to my intelligence.. i mean what can I do if the dude doesn’t ship the box? its obvious he flaked on the trade.. but to fake bottles is to suggest I might not be able to figure it out... in which case, for me anyway, its a much more malicious act 11/1/2007 12:20:07 PM
