No hard evidence exists. However, there is a certain degree of circumstantial evidence which could establish his guilt or innocence by way of reasoning. Again though, who makes that call? Not any of us in my opinion. 11/2/2007 10:21:46 AM

I’ve been waiting for this whole thing to play out before entering a trade rating. So soon I will. How do I score this thing? Oh well, I guess that’s not a big deal.

It’s your trade and how you interpret your experience is entirely up to you. Although, it may be beneficial to make reference to what happened - regardless of guilt or innocence.

I make the call. And as some have said previously, there is no proof that alafito has been complicit in this fraud. This is not nearly as cut and dry as you’re making it...and no, neither circumstantial evidence, nor the court of public opinion have any bearing on this.

Feel free to not trade with him, but he can not be sanctioned by this site, while he’s claiming innocence and there’s no evidence to the contrary. Get ahold of your damn Mob self.

And I don’t give two shits what other sites are watching this unfold. We are the only site on the web to have taken trading to a new level...a nigh art form. If anyone else is watching this unfold, I hope it’s to learn how trading is meant to be done.

I’m really getting sick of this "string-’em-up" Mob mentality. I’d have hated to be an accused person in any of your towns in the old West. unamused

And for what it is worth...until I hear/know otherwise, I entirely agree with Matt and this decision.

Trade rating by drewbeerme
The infamous fake BA AleSmith trade...trade was: 1 BA ON, 1 BA WH and 1 BA Dec05 plus AS GC, Hop15, + Stone 11th. I received 1 of each AS ON, WH, Dec 06 with markings stating "2006 Barrel Aged ***/280", along with all the other mentioned beers. PeterZ (AleSmith) confirmed they were fakes. Alafito said his bottles were the same. We all emailed back and forth, do no avail. He offered to make it up.

The trade rating ends with He offered to make it up. Did he make it up? Was the offer refused? Was the trade worked out in the end to the satisfaction of all parties?

I was trying to write more but you can’t write that much in the trade rating comment area. He offered to ship the box back to me or ship me another box of beers. I chose the later. He’s working on getting some beers I’m interested in and (as far as I’m concerned) there’s no hurry to it.

I’d give him 2 1s if it stands as is and convert them to 5s if he makes good and returns your package + what it cost you to ship him that package as you are also out that + maybe some freebies to help smooth things over.

Keep in mind that the summary limit makes a full explanation impossible, so maybe you could just write

Received 3 fake BA Alesmith bottles. See this thread this thread for details:

http://www.ratebeer.com/Forums/Topic-77576.htm

as even though the thread will disappear from the main page in a few weeks, it doesn’t get deleted completely from the database but gets impossible to find without a direct link.

One other possibility is for you to write a full explanation as a new thread then have an admin freeze the thread and delete any outside bu*****t lynchmob stuff that might sneek in before it was frozen, then use that link in the trade summary as this thread’s probably one that should be laid to rest when it falls off the page. 11/2/2007 1:33:41 PM
