o my boss is resistant to becoming educated on finer beer. Normally this would not be a problem, but my job is the Wine and Beer manager for a fine wine and beer place, so knowledge is paramount at our place. He has the palate for sure, as he is extremely knowledgeable on wine, and has a very advanced palate. However, when I told him my ltimate goal in my employment was to convert him to a beer geek he told me "I want my beer to taste like beer".

THis breaks my heart because he has the palate just not the desire. I did get hi liking Czechvar, so stage one is complete, but I need help with the next steps to keep it going.

Let it be said this in no way influences my budget. He will let me buy whatever I want, and has never imposed a budget on me, as his motto is "If you can sell it bring it in, and bring in enough so we don’t run out". I was allowed to order 3 cases of Consecration, and he didn’t even bat an eye, when I told him I was ageing a case of it for a year or two.

I would love to help him understand my passion for beer, and need some help from my Ratebeer brothers. Anyone else convert a similiar person?

If your budget is unaltered by him, then let him do his thing. Wine is his thing, and it was probably what he started with. Beer is my thing, and I don’t really have the time, money, or energy to become educated about wine. I have a feeling that he may be in the same boat.

Either way, if he became a beer geek, he may become more meddling and critical of your decisions. Ignorance is bliss sometimes...

So I have to do it sneakily when he asks what beer he should take hoe. He still looks to me for beer knowledge, just within a set of tastes he knows he wants.

Generally speaking I would agree, but he doesn’t meddle at all in wine. All he would do is order more beer geek beer. He has never stopped me from buying wine, as a matter of fact all he does is add wine on to the orders. He is so busy with the produce and nursery side of the business that he doesn’t have time to meddle.

I think this is a you-can-lead-a-horse-to-water situation. As long as he’s not interfering with what you’re trying to accomplish, screw it, just keep on keepin’ on. Maybe he’ll become curious enough, somewhere along the line, to step in and get involved as well.
