Grabbed a bottle of this while in Cali last week. When I got home I noticed the year on the bottle read "2009."

I have seen ratings talk about the 2013 vintage intermingled with 2009, 2008, and "original batch".

Curious to know if the 2009 is released for 2013, 2008 for 2012, etc. or if I got lucky (unlucky?) and snatched a 4 or 5 year old vintage bottle without knowing. No HotD here in Florida so not sure how their dates are marked for vintage year or release year.

Thanks!

Where in Cali? Itís possible the distributor had some old product that they put out there with the newer batch(es), either because they had some in their warehouse for a longass time or because they got a shipment from Hair of the Dog that was intentionally or accidentally mixed to include a variety of vintages.

It was a small grocery store in Ocean Beach just north of San Diego. They had a bunch of bottles but I didnít even pay attention. Figured the shelf stuff was just the most recent or at least previous year vintage.

So does that mean this is an older bottle? I assume this one ages well :-) might crack it tonight.

Itís older. HotD to my knowledge would put the year released, not the year Originally brewed

Well, put this in the 2nd oldest beer I have tried category then, only 2nd to a 2007 Kuhnhenn 4D earlier this year.

Thanks for the info.

Because the labels are so similar for HotD, my guess is that someone just mixed it up in there by accident and you got lucky.

Popped it just now. Pretty legit. Tastes like oaky vanilla honeycomb covered toffee and some tobacco to boot. Mmmmmmm.

I had a few bottles of the 2009 via trade and it was awesome. I had no idea that ANY vintage of FFTW was shelfie anywhere other than at the Brewery though

Run on over to Olive Tree Market Place in Ocean Beach near San Diego. They had a Rumpkin left in addition to a bunch of Fred, FftW, Adam, Cognac Brunch Weasel, Fantome, 3F, list goes on...
