Does anyone else think this is a half-wheat low-gravity normal Golden Ale with commercial lacto added to it post-fermentation?

Whatever the process, it didn’t come out all that well. I’m kind of surprised, but then looking at my Full Sail ratings, nothing from them has really impressed me.

Yeah it was pretty bad. I think I rated it too high actually but I was just dying for it to be good, but alas, it was not. Still waiting to taste a better Berliner than Paul’s beach plum berliner. Of course I havent had any of that florida ones the kids are raving about these days.

sounds about right. I would guess a lot of American brewers are doing the same, and many more taste like it. Avery Sour Fest this year was a showcase of poorly made American berliner weisse.

I understand not wanting to expose your system to bugs, but don’t give me a half-baked wannabe product. Just don’t brew something called a Berliner Weisse! I’d rather have a mediocre 4% shirt-pocket IPA than a really poor Berliner Weisse.

Some of the worst American craft brews I’ve ever had were Berliner Weisses, but I guess there are some outstanding examples in my opinion (e.g. The Tap, New Glarus). I need to get my hands on some of the crazy and wild Florida examples to see if some more Americans are doing it right.

Not all that exciting. Needs syrup to be more palatable. It was better on tap than in the bottle.

That’s such a disappointment. Berliner weiss is a style I’m hoping will become more readily available.

There are definitely a few Berliners that are just sour mash wheat, which are not bad, but very different. Full Sail wasn’t anything except bad.

I can tell you that the Funky Buddha Raspberry Berliner Weisse was incredible.

I agree with the Full Sail Berliner Weisse not being as good as I hoped though.
