Does anyone have a favorite German IPA? I just finished up a blog post on them (It was great to meet you earlier this month; thanks for your help in picking out some great German IPAs! Hereís the blog post: http://churchyardbrewery.blogspot.com/2012/08/the-german-ipa.html), but Iím curious what German IPAs you may like that I missed!

Andreas at Zoiglstube Gšnstaller apparently just whipped up a German-meets-U.S. Double IPA with a blend of German and American hops. He does whirlpool hopping like few others, and if his zoigl is any indicator, Iíd do what it takes to get over there PRONTO!

What little of Iíve had of Fritzís have been impressive: CO2 draught at the new beer fest in Munich in March and a bottle or two. Impressive in the sense that he captures the west-coast/PNW IPA thing really well, if thatís what youíre after. Me, nearly all such beers are too crystal-y sweet, a waste of beautiful hops.

I THINK the CREW guys had their new IPA at the fest, but I canít recall for sure. If so, it doesnít stand out in memory, just as their PA is not *bad*, but also not really great.

Am intrigued by this, as his "Zeugl" (as itís now apparently called?) is much improved at the new brewery in Schnaid over the old Trabesldorfer stuff, as seen at the Sandkerwa street fest in Bamberg last week. It is also a stronger version though, supposedly 5.8%.

From the country Germany, or German style IPA?

If itís the latter there is no doubt, the best IPA where continental hops play a starring role:

Fritzís "American IPA" was out-of-stock every time I went looking for it. I did try the Crew Pale Ale and I agree with @Erlangernick that it isnít terribly special. Didnít get a chance to have their IPA, though.

But from what I read about Zeugl, it sounds like I need to try it! And though not exactly German, the reviews of Svatż Norbert IPA make it sound like something definitely worth checking out.

Would the continental hops in question be the Cascade and Amarillo mentioned in the commercial description or am I reading this entirely backwards?

Obviously, nobody of my esteemed co-raters ever tried "Faust Auswanderer-Bier"Ö IMHO an expensive, but gorgeous Imp. IPA, the best of its kind in Germany!
