I donít have any expectations for good beer and the places on the website have not changed that impression. That said is there something I should not miss?

I will be in Athens, Santorini, Delphi, Nafplio.

Any thoughts appreciated

In Athens:
- Beerfactory Bottle Shop (go to the Doukissis Plakentias metro stop)
- The Local Pub in Chalandri (Chalandri metro stop)
- CRAFT Brewpub - either in Chalandri or in Athens

On Santorini:
- The Santorini Donkey Brewing Co at Perissa Beach

At Nafplio:
- ZEOS Brewing Company in Argos

Not a clue about Delphi.

If you visit the above places you will have visited about one third of whatís worth checking out beerwise in Greece IMHO.

The following beers may interest you in particular:
- Septem Sunday 89 / 99
- Santorini Crazy Donkey 89 / 73

Actually you are luckier than you thought. Apart from Athens which will give you a few nice opportunities, during the last 3 years there is a good new microbrewery in Santorini. Their IPA Crazy Donkey is very nice. I will send you a BM with all the info about Athens.

Humelala summarised it pretty well. Unfortunately I heard that Craft decided to close both restaurants down and they will just remain as a brewery.

Even though in my profile it says Germany I only moved 2 years ago here from Athens.

Deep breath and here we go

Weather:
Should be great both air and water. Not the scorching heat of the Greek Summer, but still great for swimming:
http://www.meteo.gr/cf-En.asp?city_id=20 (Santorini,in metric system)
http://www.meteo.gr/cf-En.asp?city_id=12 (Athens)

Security:
I assume you will be staying in the Center (Sintagma,Omonia,Monastiraki triangle). Sintagma is the best place to stay, in Omonia there are some regions that
especially during the night gather drug addicts. Despite that Athens used to be quite safe , but with the recent economical problems you should be a bit more careful.
I wouldnít be to worried about it though, the annoying thing is that there are strikes on a weekly basis.

Transportation.
Metro all the way (as long as it is not on strike :D ), it is very clean, safe and bmodern. In the Sintagma station there are also
archaelogical finds on display, which they found during the excavations
Map : http://www.sunsailing.gr/images/mapsCity Attica/mapAthensMetro.JPG
You can buy a day ticket for about 3.50 euro (valid also for all busses, trams, etc)

Other than that taxis are way cheaper than in the USA, you can stop them on the street, the hotel can also call one for you and there are starting points in all major squares.

Regarding Beer (the important stuff ):

Brewpub.
Craft (www.craft.gr), just opposite the "Ambelokipi" metro station of the Blue line
Unfortunately as I said it is most possible that it will be closed when you are there

Bars:
The Local Pub :
http://www.ratebeer.com/Places/ShowPlace.asp?PlaceID=20744

Fotis is the owner. Young guy (and beer geek) and really loves what he is doing. This is the only place to find most Greek micros on tap.
Try the entire Septem lineup. Their APA is great ! http://www.ratebeer.com/brewers/septem-microbrewery/10825/ , www.septem.gr
They also have Donkey beers (they are from Santorini so you will probably get them very fresh there). The Crazy donkey is superb.
They also have a lot of bottles from greek and UK breweries (and often US ones). Pub is similar to the UK Pubs and there are sport events on the TV.
The other great thing is that he really enforces the non smoking policy inside the pub (rare for Greece, there is also a great patio outside)
If you have a laptop or smartphone ask Fotis for the Wifi password.

Wee Drum:
Scottish pub with scottish owner. Depends on the day (he makes small imports) you can find from good to great range of UK and scottish ales.
Very friendly owner, great atmosphere.

Restaurants:
Bierhof is in the center of Athens, food is good and fairly prices and they have a good bottle selection:
http://www.ratebeer.com/p/bierhof-athens/16608/

Zythos.
http://www.ratebeer.com/p/zythos-athens/4595/
Has typical Bavarian (german) cuisine and lots of belgian, german and othe beers on tap (8) or bottle (approx. 100, but quite expensive)
Their Pork knuckle (Haxe) is cooked with pints of red ale for hours, is enough for 2 persons and is great !

Beer Stores:

Beer Factory http://www.ratebeer.com/p/beer-factory-athens/12224/
(Next to Doukissis Plakentias metro station (blue line)
Here you will find 95% of all greek micros and lots of foreign beer. Sometimes it is good for surprises. He can be pricey though.
He is your best bet to find Fresh unpasteurized Zeos Pilsner ( http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/zeos-pilsner-unpasteurized/60824/ )
It is usually tap only and not available in Athens, but they get fresh pet bottles of 1lt (with 40 day exp.date), it will be one of the best light beers
you had in a long time if you get it fresh.

2.Beer&Beer ( http://www.beer.gr/retailers/469) the second beer store chain that opened. It is quite difficult to go by public Transportation there
and is a bit far (Northeren suburbs of Athens)
http://www.ratebeer.com/p/beer-beer-athens/16661/
Has about 100-120 bottles, and is quite pricey sometimes (Greece has unfortunately high taxes on import beer),
On a good day they will also have some mikkeller and brewdog.

Nafplio is one of my favorite cities. Very beautiful but beerwise donít expect much. If you make a trip to Argos the Zeos brewery is located there
but I would call first to see if they allow visits at that day.

Delphi, just visit the archaelogical monuments nad you will be lucky if you even find Amstel or Heineken :)

Santorini is one of the most romantical places in the world, the scenery is breathtaking.
The DOnkey Brewery opened 3 years ago and they have great and very modern facilities.

If you are a wine guy as well, Santorini has great wine and you can also find organized Vineyard visits with tasting events,

Regarding food in Athens I can recommend you anything from the best Kebab all the way to Michelin Star restaurants.
Just BM for any additional thing you want

Best beers to try (IMO):
All from Septem
Crazy Donkey
Wild Donkey
Yellow Donkey
Craft Smoked Lager
Craft Black Lager
Zeos Unpasterized Pilsner

I also heard about a new one just released, you should be able to get it at Local Pub:
http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/fresh-chios-beer-house-ale/178494/

Lastly if you have some spare room and want to set up a trade , talk to Spiros : http://www.ratebeer.com/user/135330/ he would probably be interested.

Cheers,

Alex

Sounds like solid recommendations all round! A pity that I missed the Beer&Beer place on my last visit.

Good hunting, I have been to the Greek islands many times and never seem to find anything but Mythos, Alpha and the now defucnt Zorbas beer. All pale lagers. I was in Santorini about three years ago so maybe I just missed their brewery. I am not a big fan of pale lagers so tend to move on to wine. As Nightfall says the wine in Santorini is very good and a bit different from others in Greece. yeia mas
