I have been working on one. I think most people who try to make a clone end up making a Wheat IPA (like the previous post) which are good, but not really Gumballhead-like. I made a simple American wheat with moderate amounts of Amarillo at 60 and 10 minutes to get ~29 IBU’s and I dryhopped with a good amount of Amarillo’s. That is probably the closest I have gotten. As for an exact clone, there is not one out there, just all kinds of attempts. 4/8/2008 3:28:20 PM

Thanks. What do you use as far as malt? Specialty grain?

I have spoken with Nick about this beer and this is what I would do for an extract recipe...

Boil 90 min.
7# wheat LME from NB or Briess (same thing)
6 AAUs of Amarillo @60 min.
4 oz. Amarillo @whirlpool.

Cool to 66 and ferment with a 1 qt. starter of whatever yeast you think is close, I use 1272. let go for 3 days @ 66 and rise to 70 for 4 days. Transfer to a keg if you can with 4 oz. Amarillo and let sit at 70 for 1 week. Crash/keg, or bottle with .9 oz. dextrose/finished gallon of beer.

Looks like we are in the same ballpark for IBU’s. The big KO addition along with DH would get you that Gumballhead aroma. How’s this sound for a grist?
5# red wheat
4# Canada 2 row or pils
1# Munich 10°L

It was a year or two ago, but Nick was nice enough to stop by this forum and give us a little hint towards the recipe. Just remember to dry hop warm (~70) and if you can, do it in a sealed container, such as a corny keg.

Throw in some rice hulls, but yeah that looks about right. Personally I would just use malted and flaked wheat, but if you have had good luck with unmalted, go for it.
