o part one has been frozen, but here is the link

http://www.ratebeer.com/forums/harrisoni-and-the-olympic-10k_161621.htm

Nothing untoward here, it’s just threads get frozen after a certain amount of time from starting it. This one should see me through to the end of the year.

So what a past 14 days it has been. Let’s start with the stats

Beers to go = 953 (1150 at last update)
Beers drunk since start = 847 (average 4.34 beers per day)
Days to go = 354 (368 at last update)
Average per day required = 2.69 (3.27 at start and 3.12 last update)
Days ahead of schedule = 63 (17 last update)

Under 1000 beers left in just under a year. I still think that sounds like quite a big number, nearly 1k new beers in a year, but I guess it should definitely be do-able. And down to 2.69 new beers a day. 63 days ahead of schedule, so I can definitely have a quiet November-January, the winter fallow period where I can recharge my batteries for the home stretch. They’ll be no need for a visit to Colchester or Chelmsford winter fests next year.

As for the last 14 days since an update, well, there was the small matter of over 200 beers. 62 at Chriso’s tasting, 70 at GBBF with another 22 in the fridge in bottle and a whole lot more from the Grand tasting, for which I actually have handwritten notes which I will enter as the week goes on.

RBESG was brilliantly put together initially by Tom but ultimately finished off by Nate in great fashion with some help with a bus from BobinLondon. The Saturday was truly a great day, with the meet up at the Kernel, the bus ride round the Olympic park, Brodies (even if the beers were a bit iffy), great Jaipur at The Southampton and the coup de grace, the cherry on top, was a night at The Craft. So, so happy.

Saturday evening did finish on a sour note when I returned to Ashford station to find someone had nicked the front wheel of my bike. I had a 45 min walk home with a bike with one wheel and then 3 hours this morning finding a new wheel, tyres and then fitting them as well as doing up my spare bike to use on such trips as that one doesn’t have quick release anything and I don’t care if it gets stolen.

Finally and as always, thanks to everyone who either bought me a beer, shared a beer with me or has given me a bottle or can. These include this week, ndon, ethereal, Rune (the After Ski is probably my favourite donation so far), Menno from De Molen, tdm82 and whoever gave me the can of Swedish pale lager on Saturday and to anyone else I have missed out. Thanks to the RB table at GBBF for turning the flag on the table into the "Harrisoni 10k Support Group," complete with Olympic rings symbol. When I was faced with another cask American IPA, that kind of support got me through it all.

And so as my liver recovers from the recent exertions, I feel confident of claiming my prize on 27 July next year.

Cheers to you all.

Ian

that sounds like you’re gonna hibernate 6 months - at this rate we expect to have to brew your celebration beer at xmas!

actually, I think we should refuse to supply it until you get to 10,000 beers - so that’s about 300 off your total for sake/mead/battery acid etc

seriously though, way to go!

Just a heads up.

I have been sick for the past 6 days and not had a drop of alcohol. The longest I’ve been off the sauce since I broke my arm I think. Good luck I’m so far ahead of myself.

It feels a bit like Asafa Powell having to pull out of the World Athletics in Korea.

But I still have my eyes on the prize. Borefts in 4 weeks will be a complete blast as always.

Beers to go = 867 (953 at last update)
Beers drunk since start = 941 (average 4.18 beers per day)
Days to go = 324 (354 at last update)
Average per day required = 2.68 (3.27 at start and 2.69 last update)
Days ahead of schedule = 59 (63 last update)

So around a month since the last update on the stats and about 86 beers added since then, so a pretty slow month for me. I did have a week without a beer though due to a virus and bacterial lung infection I had.

This still leaves me well ahead, but like Usain Bolt last week, I don’t want this to be a too quick a start. I still need to finish the race.

So what have I been drinking the past month? Well the largeish selection of bottles brought back from GBBF. I was really impressed with the BIA beers from Del Ducato and the Bairds and Hitachino Nest beers from Japan.

Thanks to ndon (Nic) for the Murrays Wild Thing Impy Stout.

Oh and thanks to Hogtownharry for a couple of amazing ice ciders brought over from Canada.

Canterbury Brewers did 3 new beers for the summer, so I picked those up.

The Brodies Birthday Bash I must admit was a little disappointing. OK I wasn’t 100% fit still after my illness, but none of the beers were particularly good and the condition of some were poor. Ang’s Birthday at Craft Beer Co though was a stunning occasion as always at this pub and I got some beauties on that evening. Thanks again to Grant and Justin Curlow for the Midnight Sun beers.

Since then, The Kernel Brewery has kept me going with a whole range of bottles I got from the brewery last Saturday. They are really good and just about my favourite brewery in the last 12 months. The CCA IPA in particular was amazing. Almost as good as Bear Republic Racer 5, which is my benchmark US style IPA.

I’ve also still got a bit of a backlog which I am entering. Most of my phone ratings are in now, but I still have some from RBESG grand tasting. All my backlog beers are from this year and since I started this quest.

Once again, thanks for all of the support and all of the beers.

Beer of the month? I really want to say the Afterski brewed by Mack donated by Rune because the artwork on the can was so awesome.

But it has to go to a combination of The Kernel ANR and CCA (although not blended togther and certainly not barrel aged!!!!!). Both beers took my breath away. At a time when my palate gets a severe hammering, those 2 stood out as beers I would want to enjoy again and again.

Next big thing? Borefts at the end of September. 50 new beers or 2 days just drinking Struise beers? Hmmmmmmm. Need to find a balance there somewhere. Maybe 1 rate and then 1 beer I like and alternate like that.
