I’m in a store today, thinking I’m going to get myself a bottle of Cantillon Kriek. The guy brings it out from the back and tells me "it’s pricey just so you know". I ask how much, thinking it will be 13 or 14 bucks, and he tells me $36.99 (i might be a dollar or so off). This is for a 375 of Cantillon Kriek. Needless to say I passed on it.

And no, it wasn’t mispriced.

Is this in any way, shape, or form normal?

$36.99 for a 375ml Cantillon Kriek is beyond even the most extreme prices I have seen (and that includes bars).

When they’ve had them in stock, a 750 of the Kriek ran for around $55, and a LP Kriek was $70.99.

I think we sell the 750s for $17.99 when they are in stock. Most we have ever charged for any of them was $25 or so. Scroll past.

No, but thanks to the whole Ebay thing going away, combined with all the annoying exposure that got in the blogosphere, you should expect this to happen much more as quite a few stores are now hoarding anything and everything people were buying on Ebay and charging a large price since folks no longer have any other options for buying these types of beers. Locally, I saw regular Cantillon 375s on the shelves for $45.00 each.

Most of the 750s I buy are in the $25 range, so yes, too expensive.

Paid $35 for a 750 ml ’09 Lou Pepe Kriek in a bar less than a month ago. Paid $14 for a 375 ml Rose de Gambrinus at Sergio’s in Louisville in Feb and thought that was high. Sounds like some major gouging.

Far too expensive. I paid 40ish for a750 of 09 LP Kriek and that was bar pricing.

Yeah I’ve paid $40 for a 750 of LP Kriek at Monk’s. I just wanted to know if this went on anywhere else. I wonder if anyone is buying them at that price.
