o sad, so very sad...
I just finished off my last bottle of vintage Ølfabrikken Porter.
It was a rather bittersweet moment.
Such a beer of bliss.
Oh the memories.
I don’t have many good things to say about the new Gourmetbryggeriet "stuff" that has been floating around.
Back when the brewery was first bought out, I did a side by side comparison of Christian Skovdal Andersen’s V.S. the Gourmetbryggeriet. There are so many differences in taste and appearance. These should not be considered the same beer.
Damn Gourmetbryggeriet!
Does anyone else feel the pain of a good brewery gone bad?

We all do. It always sucks to lose a good brewery, especially to corporate greed. I will pour some whiskey (down my throat) in honor of the old Ølfabrikken.

how do you tell the difference? label wise
This is a recap of my comparison between the two versions.
Bottle size:
Gourmetbryggeriet 22oz
Old 16.9 oz
Labels:
GB version has a bunch of extra GB crap printed all over it
Bottle caps:
GB silver cap
Old black cap
ABV:
GB 7.5
Old 8.0
GB started canning it as well, but I don’t think the cans are distributed to the US?
As far as the beer.
The appearance of the old is darker
The GB has more carbonation with a white head (old has very small amount of very brown head)
The GB has very thin lacing (old has a beautiful sticky lacing that really coats the sides of the glass)
Old has a heavy amount of residual yeast in the bottom of the bottle (GB has close to none)
The GB has a much thinner, lighter, almost watery body(not nearly as rich as old)
Old has much smoother and velvety finish
The GB has an odd somewhat metallic bitterness
Overall everything about the GB batch is far lesser in quality, and it does not deserve the ratings people give it.
