If the beer isn’t worth it, stop trying to get it.
Or offer up better beers.
This isn’t rocket science.
People can say over and over that it’s a good trade.. but are those people offering up the bottle for the lists you’ve posted?
There was even a guy that had a bottle but allready traded it.
He said that he would trade me a Rare for the 75cl bottle of first batch Aardmonnik that i have in no time ...
...But he didn’t trade it to you, did he?
He said he would do it if he had one ...
Or are you saying that guy is lying to me ? maybe i trust too many people ...
People talk alot of shit when they don’t have what you are looking for. This seems to be the biggest one with those people.

How about the most recent Framboos for a Rare? About the same price.

All this back and forth about rarity and bottle numbers gives me a fucking headache. It’s beer!
Maybe the people that currently have(hoard)"Rare" won’t give it up easily, but that doesn’t mean everybody is like that. I’ve given away better(and more limited) beer that "Rare" and probably will again in the future.
Fuck...

There is your problem right there. What is the incentive on the part of the person who has Rare to part with it at cost? The difficulty in obtaining Rare and the time elapsed since the beer was last available all factor in. I bet if you offered several of those and got over the whole dollar for dollar (which given the value of the euro vs. the US dollar is absolutely ridiculous to begin with), you would land a bottle of Rare. Any one of those alone are not worth it, IMO. One of the reasons why the Danes have so much luck trading for beers is that they go by volume rather than price. They realize that 12 bottles of Danish beer cost a hell of a lot more than 12 bottles of US beer and are okay with that.

How do you figure? Can’t get a Rare here, can’t get a Boos there. Both cost the same or so.

Last place I know that was selling Rare had it for $100, which is why they still had it, and that was 6 months ago. Its long gone now. You could get the bottle for 70 euros and trade it pretty much $ for € and rarity for rarity (bottle you can’t get in Europe for a bottle we can’t get in the U.S.).

Yikes. If someone doesn’t want to do the trade, it’s pretty hard to be critical. There are no rules (nor should there be) regarding what is OK for a trade, or what makes a trade "good". Very simply, a good trade is one when both parties are happy. As I read this thread, a good trade is when YOU are happy. The cost of shipping beer across the pond, the age/rarity of Rare, and everything else mentioned is going to make it hard for you, unless you revise what it means for you to be happy. Its pretty obvious that you don’t value a Rare at the same level that a potential trader might, in which case you might as well drink some of that awesome beer that you have and call it a night (no sarcasm).

There comes a point at which the original bottle count doesn’t matter anymore. At all. GI was one of the first breweries to have the distribution and capital to get as many Pappy barrels as they did. It is a different game now. And that was a 1-off beer. I bought my bottle for $75 at Sergio’s in Louisville last year (retail carryout), and I was happy to do it because it was the last one and I couldn’t find it anywhere else. I’m not getting into the bidding end of things because my Rare isn’t for trade; I’m just saying that the number of bottles released and the number of bottles left are quite different...and apparently Rare is pretty good, judging by the ratings (and demand).
