I have no doubt that he’ll make solid brews at his own brewery, but I’m going to start to wonder when all these new breweries opening in Portland are going to create a black hole of over saturation.

Some of these new breweries are phenomenal, but others are lack luster.

I’ve been away for six years and am theoretically spending a week or two in PDX in the coming months. A fooking assload are new to me.

Wouldn’t mind hearing about which are the lackluster ones....

As far as lackluster, I haven’t been overly impressed with Natian, Migration, Coalition, the new Fire on the Mountain brewery (but I still love Fire on the Mountain), and Columbia River Brewing.

I would recommend the following of the newer breweries:
The Commons Brewery
Breakside
Burnside Brewing
Upright Brewing

...and hit up the following new locations that have opened in the last six years:
Hair of the Dog
Deschutes
Cascade Barrel House
Hopworks (I prefer their new Bike Bar over the brewery location)

Gigantic Brewing is in the works. It is being opened up by Van Havig and Ben Love. Should be promising.

Also, one of the best new Breweries in Oregon is Boneyard out of Bend. Some of the best Hoppy beers in the NW and rival the great California IPAs. If you see anything from them in Portland be sure to try them.

New great beer bars in the last six years:
The BeerMongers
Bailey’s Taproom
Apex Bar
Saraveza
The Hop and Vine
The new Belmont Station location (they moved in 2007).

this man knows his stuff. spot on.

Thanks Michael!!!

I also forgot to mention Lompoc opened a cozy bar called the Side Bar. It’s attached to their Fifth Quandrant Brewery and it’s their barrel aging room turned into a bar. It’s right next to Hopworks Bike Bar. A good little crawl on your way to North Portland for Breakside, Saraveza, and The Hop & Vine.
