Having been around the scene for a few years, Iíve tasted a fair few IPAs. But Kernel for me brew the best IPAs in the UK that knock me off my socks. Even the run of the mill ones are 3.8 out of 5.0 for me, and the best, well the best, the SCANS and SCCANS are just amazing. OK, I do love Simcoe so I adore those the most.

But even this evening I sit here and am completely blindsided by just how good a Kernel IPA can be. After 11000 beers its just great to have a beer where the aroma is so beautiful and intense, the body is perfect, the balance, the flavours, the long lingering finish.

Yes I know I did the Kernel Love thread about 6 months ago, but still there is no brewery in the UK in the last 3 years that blows me away with the regularity of Kernel

Thoughts comments?

Oh and how lucky are we, especially in the London/south east area, to get them so super fresh?

Now that is interesting. I love the Kernel Simcoe based IPAs, and the Oakham Green Devil is Citra based. Yes I like Citra but not as much as Simcoe. Do Oakham do a Simcoe beer? Oakham do handle their hops well and brewery condition their cask beers as well as any other brewery Iíve come across.

I can understand what you say Craig, some Kernel IPAs donít have the base malt to give that full mouthfeel, but when they are great, they are great.

I am way behind in terms of beer ratings, but in high on 25 years of drinking cask, keg and bottled stuff, The Kernel is pretty much up there in what they do. Mind, I did give Roosters Fort Smith a full score this year, it blew me away completely....

Double Citra blew my socks off amazing IPA, I like Thornbridge hoppy beers Halcyon is really good and as Craig said earlier Green Devil amazing. A special mention goes to Axe Edge.

Im in danger of being reasonable here, but I actually agree with Craig.

However thats maybe cause I always have at least one kernel Pale/IPA on in my liveringroom and Green Devil is a rare treat!

Well liveringroom is a new name for it, but it does what it says on the tin!

Green Devil is an outstanding beer (4.4 for me). I think the thing with Kernel is that they (with that charming nonchalance of theirs) turn something out on a par with Green Devil (or very close to) on a near weekly basis. The SANS is gorgeous.

I get the impression that overseas raters don't score it as highly as the UK crew.
