Pretty sure bro was referencing the imports that are about to happen. Aside from that. Smithfield (the company) doesnít really make the old school Smithfield-style country ham anymore.

Youíre FOS. My local grocery still sells the country hams in the (burlap or whatever cloth it is) sack.
I can go buy 50 of them if I wanted to.

According to their website, Smithfield, the company, doesnít produce a country ham.

Link

And BTW, Proscuitto di Parma is simply a salted and dry cured ham, nothing more, nothing less. Sound familiar?

Wrong website, Jr.

Wrong again, Herb.

No, itís not. Smithfield foods was sold to Shuanghui International Holdings Ltd. Here is the portfolio:

Smithfield foods has a brand called smithfield, here is the product line:

And oddly enough, not a single country ham in the lineup.

Is there direct ordering available? The available storefronts are as pricey or pricier then a lot of imported stuff.

Thatís the acorn edition which is a special buy-the-whole-pig sort of deal and $$$. The regular stuff is pretty reasonably priced.

Oh man, they are a lot cheaper off the shelf here in Iowa. Those borselinno salamis are $5.99 locally. Except for the acorn.

Yeah even the cooperative will sell you some for a lot cheaper. I remember a few months back walking into our wine room and seeing a full leg. I really wanted to steal it. Our deli got in a few pounds of some different things. It lifted so hard to just grab a thin slice whenever you wanted.

confusion? Are smithfield foods and smithfield hams the same thing?

Yes, they are. Same company.

The original Smithfield farm did create the original Smithfield ham but they donít anymore. Other ham artisans still make te style. Itís not something that Smithfield foods is even interested in making as it takes a year or more to make.
