s I’ve mentioned elsewhere, my wife (Ali) and I are leaving DC at the end of this month. Less than three days of work left. It’s possible that on Sunday evening I will finish packing and spontaneously combust.
We will be roadtripping for three months ~westward, with a two-week long pause in the Reno, NV / Truckee, CA area in mid-October. First half of the trip will get us to Montana and Nevada. Second half of the trip will involve scouting out possible places to live along the West Coast. Our flight to Nicaragua is December 3rd.
Essentially, we’ll be visiting brewpubs and national parks for three months. We’d like to meet up with a lot of you.
Tentative itinerary:
Aug 31 - Sep 2: Pittsburgh, PA
Staying with family, likely hitting up East End (if they’re open), Church Brew, Mad Mex (on Atwood), Sharp Edge.
Sep 3: State College, PA
Staying with lilannie (I think), likely hitting up Otto’s, possibly Zeno’s. Will visit Selin’s Grove and Bullfrog, and possibly Bavarian Barbarian, on the way to NEPA. Jason (kramer17801), we should get together at Selin’s Grove.
Sep 4-6: Wilkes-Barre / Scranton, PA
Staying with family. Likely stops include Arena Bar & Grille (probably with my dad), River Street Pour House, etc. Not sure when we’ll be with family and when we’ll be free. Probably driving up to Ithaca, NY and/or Captain Lawrence on the way to CT. John (jjpm74), we should try and meet up somewhere.
Sep 7-9: Willimantic, CT
Staying with family. Visiting Willi (two blocks away from my sister-in-law!) and The Cambridge House, definitely.
Sep 10-11?: somewhere in ME
Likely camping somewhere, and hitting up Ebenezer’s. No major plans.
Sep 12-14?: Montreal, QC
Staying with Glouglouburp. Dieu du Ciel 10th Anniversary Party. Looking forward to seeing a lot of the NY/NJ folks up there as well (Paul, Andy, etc.). Not sure where else we’ll be going, but knowing me we’ll be at DdC for at least two nights. Dany, I’ll give you a final ETA as soon as I can.
Sep 15-16?: Toronto, ON
Not sure where we’re staying yet. Likely hitting up BeerBistro and a vegan restaurant called Fressen. Hoping to drink copious amounts of Denisons Weissbeer.
Sep 17-19?: somewhere in MI
Not sure where we’re staying yet; moving around quite a bit. Definitely want to revisit the Livery and Bell’s Eccentric Cafe. Will likely head up to northern MI for a day+ to camp and visit Shorts. May hit up Flossmoor, 3F, Chicago stuff, and New Glarus on way to MN. Will presumably be meeting up with Mike (BBB63) for a beer or ten.
OHIO???
Not sure whether I can make this work or not. Very much wanted to see Schroppy, miketd, moejuck, etc., but I’m not sure whether we’ll have time to backtrack from Michigan. Considering a quick trip to Upland with the excuse of picking up lambics, etc., but not sure if they’ll even be ready, or if any of you are even close to Upland.
Sep 20-22?: St. Paul, MN
Staying with Stine. I anticipate a full, action-packed itinerary prepared in advance.
Sep 23-28??: Glacier National Park, MT
I think I promised my wife five days here. It’s very easy to promise things like this.
Late Sep / Early Oct: Boulder, CO
Staying with acrdz, probably drinking beer and shooting gophers.
We’ll be arriving in Reno area sometime in early October. West Coast itinerary is completely up in the air right now. Hoping to make it up to the HOTD Dock Sale on the 15th of November. I’ll be updating this thread as we go along.
In summary, what events / beer stops / national parks am I missing?
And where are we meeting you for a beer?

That should work great, presuming we’re still staying in Pittsburgh that night (depends on what my brother has going on). We missed Sean the last couple times he was around DC.

Already tried to push for GABF. Problem is, we’re supposed to get to NV by the second week of October... High altitude, weather gets cold quick, and we’ll be working outside for two weeks. It’s still possible, but unlikely at this point. Pete, are you and Catherine definitely heading out there?

Two days for northern and southern MI? You might get delayed right there.
And OH wouldn’t be bad for a swing over to Upland.
The only problem is that Sept. 19-21 for me is a kid weekend, so not the best time for beers over here. On the other hand, perhaps we could meet up in Dexter, Marshall (Dark Horse) or Bell’s on Sunday the 21st? Lucky me - I don’t teach on Mondays this semester!
