I just had something happen that has never happened in the thousands of beers I have opened. I opened a new glarus edel pils with the same opener that I always use, and instead of a normal hiss sound there was a loud pop. It almost sounds like a cap gun or popping a baloon. The beer is probably 3-4 months old and has been refrigerated since I received it. Anyone ever experience this?

Opened an Arabier once and it was damn near a gunshot. Gushed a little but it was tasty.

Had some troegs bottles many years ago that sounded like gunshots. Caps were flying off and hitting the ceiling.

This cap neither flew off or was from something sour or I wouldnít have been as surprised.

LIke a fart?

Was the beer bottle conditioned? Most Belgian and Euro beers are, also beers from russian River, crooked stave, fantome, Hill farmstead..mostly farmhouse breweries bottle condition so that pop can happen.

Loudest cap Iíve heard was for Westbrook McColluogh saison. Rocketed off with a gunshot sound and gushed half the bottle onto the wall and floor

Many times and in variaties of corks, iron caps or those swing bottles...
Once with a 75 Duvel bottle I was loosening the iron cage to get the cork of, with only two or three swings the cork flew of with a loud bang, together with itís cage and bounched throught the kitchen, luckily just missing us. No gusher.

Have had this happen when particular bottles are over carbonated. Some just shatter, others hold the pressure and will pop once you open it. Be careful though, because Iíve also had both happen simultaneously in my hand.
