My beer buddy (ChiGuy68) and I are traveling though Michigan next week starting this Saturday on a Beer Vacation! Please let us know if you have any suggestions for where we should go for beer in Michigan!!

We are coming from Chicago going to Grand Rapids, Detroit, Traverse City, and then back to Chicago via the shores of Lake Michigan. We plan on stopping at:

Livery – Benton Harbor
Hopcat – Grand Rapids
Bells - Kalamazoo
Kuhnhenn Warren
Dragonmead Warren
Shorts - Traverse City Area
Seven Monks - Traverse City Area
New Holland - Holland
Jamesport - Ludington

We will also be bringing some Chicago beers with us from Revolution, Pipework’s, and Half Acre Breweries for trade. We will be rating on RateBeer as we go along!!

Cheers,
Paul aka Pablo951

Nice!

You could hit Dark Horse and B. Nektar as well.

Sounds like a fun trip! I like the Kalamazoo Beer Exchange in addition to what you have listed. You’ve also got Dark Horse which is in Marshall... not too far from Kalamazoo.

If you’re in GR, might as well hit Founders, Vivant, & Perrin while you’re there.

There’s also Frankenmuth, if your out that way...

You are driving right past Founders. Don’t do that! Also, Right Brain in Traverse City is a good stop. At least it was a couple of years ago.

Founders is right up the street from Hop Cat. You can walk between the two.

Skip Dragonmead, and go to Kuhnhenn instead.
Go to Slow’s BBQ in Detroit.
I also suggest Right Brain in Traverse.
Go to either the Jolly Pumpkin in Traverse or Ann Arbor. Two of the best beer places I’ve ever been.
Frankly, I’d skip New Holland and Livery.
Dark Horse is on the way from Kalamazoo to Detroit, not far off the highway. Easy, and good, stop.

For beer, yes, but if you want phenomenal BBQ (and a decent beer list), scroll past Slow’s and go to Union Woodshop nearby in Clarkston. Trust me on this; I ate at both in the same day recently, and Woodshop blew Slow’s out of the water food-wise (and there are enough breweries and meaderies nearby to keep your thirst quenched).
