rvdoorn 13:
My friend will visit Kyoto, Osaka and Kobe the end of July. He asked if he should take some Japanese microbrews with him back to Europe for me. Are there good stores or pubs in Kyoto, Osaka and Kobe that I can recommend him to buy Japanese microbrews, and if yes, can somebody also recommend some good brews?
Thanks in advance!

Look in the Places section for shops in that area. Not sure what the stores have available, so it is best to just get a list of top breweries in Japan and ask him to pick up something from those breweries.

Yamaoka in Kyoto and Asahiya in Osaka are the best bets for Japanese beers. Craft Beer Base in Osaka is also decent and a bit more accessible. Just as Tim says regarding choices, though most beers from Shiga Kogen/Tamamura Honten (#1 right now), Hideji, Baird Seasonals, Daisen Seasonals, North Island, Oni Dentetsu, should be good bets (these are generally available in bottles). Most Japanese craft is unpasteurized, so he should (try to) keep it cool.
