I loved the Adnams Earl Grey beer at the Spoons fest. Why aren’t there more tea beers? I mean, there’s loads of coffee stouts out therebut I think the Adnams Gunnamatta is the first tea beer I’ve seen.

Tea has a far greater range of flavours than coffees, too. I’m thinking that the following might work::
A pu erh sour ale
A jasmine dragon pearls lager
A lapsang souchong porter
A keemun esb
A builders tea beer made with stewed Tetley in a sweet stout

Maybe Siren could do a single tea series to serve with their single biscuit series?

Discuss.

Anth

I think the first I tried was the Marble/Emelisse one, which was rather good ( http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/marble--emelisse-earl-grey-ipa/182444/), as was the Gunnamatta.

Then there was the Siren Chai beer ( http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/siren-chai-love-you-a-latte/212217/) which was interesting but odd.

I suspect this is a tough one to do well.

http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/pressure-drop-builders-tea/212279/ not sure if that has tea in? Hardknott rhetoric #3 does. New metalman/hardknott collab also a tea beer.

Had a couple out here in Beijing too...obviously tea an important part of Chinese culture whereas UK now a nation of coffee drinkers.

I haven’t been convinced by the combination beer+tea yet, the few I’ve tasted didn’t really appeal to me, but off course that’s personal. I can see it becoming more popular though.

I sometimes get Early Grey resembling notes in IPAs..
I don’t think ive sampled an actual ’tea beer’ however .. but then fuck knows I might have .

Certain national brewers manage to get a cold stewed tea taste in quite a few of their major brands, imo!
Not an enjoyable flavour.

Brew by Numbers Saison with Hibiscus and Chamomile was a thing of beauty.

Yeah but there was no tea in there!

At the first CBC there was a one-off keg of Mikkeller Beer Geek English Breakfast - tasted like sucking a tea bag, massive astringency. Must be hard to get a good flavour without getting the harshness.

Buxton’s Fruit Tea Saison was good, but didn’t have any actual tea in it.

Michael Jackson reviewed one that I don’t believe exists anymore, Lindeman’s Tea Beer which was a Lambic

Agree. Loved this on cask back in 2012, still looking to get/try a bottle of this as well sometime.
