Hi Gang,

My question is: Which beers are the most aromatic? I’m not asking if you like the smell---or the beer.

IMHO, aroma preconditions us to the taste---and approval of a beer. If it has a pleasant or distinctive aroma, we expect an "interesting" tasting brew. If it has a bland aroma, we expect little.

My top 5 aromatic beers:

1] Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier Urbock

2] Bells Two Hearted Ale

3] Odd Side Ales CPA

4] Bear Republic Hop Rod Rye Ale

5] Pilsner Urquell

I’ll skip my opinions of the brews to see what you think! :-)

For me, Kern River Citra was one of the most aromatic that my nose ever encountered.

The aecht schlenkerla rauchbier marzen was a most aromatic beer and I didn’t like it. Not one bit.

I think today’s beer was very aromatic. ST Imperial Compass. Rate Beer lists it as a Belgian strong ale and that is what it is. Very aromatic and light with every flavor peaking gently. Floral, perfumey hops and soft yeasty character.

1) Tap 5 "Meine Hopfenweisse" from Schneider Weisse when it gets warm

2) some really good Lambics - like from Oud Beersel, Cantillon, 3 F

I just hate any beer from Aecht Schlenkerla, because I want a beer and not a piece of smoked meat....
