Predicting an early failure for these guys in the craft beer space. If you don’t have the palate and passion, then don’t brew beer in my town!! "Just to pay the bills"? F.U.

It was in the video. Sounds like beer was an afterthought, but the guy worked at Great lakes QC as a chemist, so I doubt the beer will have any major flaws. Plus, they are making and bottling an Eisbock; how bad can they be?

I wish them the best and don’t see much point in criticizing before they have even opened their doors.

Had they said "we like beer and want to brew it" I would give them some sort of benefit of doubt. But that’s not what they said - joking or not, this is NOT a craft beer focused establishment. I would rather have 3 passionate focused breweries in our city than 500 half-ass attempts.

The deluge of profiteers has begun and we’re going to drown if we give everyone a warm welcome. In the next few years you’ll see tons of new breweries opening because it’s profitable not because there’s passion there. It’s no coincidence that Matt Cole is kicking ass in the world of beer. He’s got that fire - he actually loves what he does, and he’s worked his ass off to get his own label.

Look, I’ll give any new place’s beer a shot and will happily proclaim from the mountain tops if it’s good, but you’re starting off on the wrong foot when you’re publicly stating that you’re brewing to cash in on a trend and to pay the bills for your distillery. And, if I’m not mistaken, the guy was NOT a brewer at GLBC but was a chemist so as far as I’m concerned that means zero experience brewing outside the garage. Not every home brewer with a business plan gets my undying devotion - you either need to show me passion or have some kind of history in this city. These guys have neither so I’m instantly suspicious of profiteering.

Even if beer isn’t their focus, it isn’t going to "pay the bills" if it sucks. I will give any new brewer a shot and I want as many good places here as the market will bear. If it’s good, they will profit. If not, they won’t. It’s pretty simple. At the very least you should give them the benefit of the doubt until you talk to them yourself and not take a three minute video as gospel. I will stay positive at least until I try the beer.

And I said the guy was a chemist, not a brewer. My point was that the beer should be free of major flaws because of his experience.

When have you known me to be negative about something for no reason? I’m definitely critical and maybe a cynic, but it’s usually based on some sort of experience. I will have an opinion of these guys AFTER they open. Heck, I was kinda pumped when the IMP opened.

Oh, and screw you!

Is that better?

Atta boy! And I agree, give them a chance. No point in writing them off before they have even produced anything.
